It's possible that most animals can be domesticated if the need or desire was present, but I think it may be correlated to our ape abilities in relation to the target animal. How successful we are in taming subjects for breeding and what incentives we can provide in a domesticated life that's conducive to that animals instincts and pleasures are likely very large

Take for instance grooming behaviors.

The capybara video inspired me to reflect on how many different species would react positively to homo sapiens grooming behaviors and instincts. Dogs and capybaras seem naturally inclined to accept these physical interactions; so that's another incentive or positive for successful long term domesticated life among dogs and capybaras. There's so much more out there to explore and question on why pairings are successful.
