I am starting to learn a different language (either Spanish or French) and I was drawn to some peculiar traits I was using without placing too much emphasis on.

I have understood for sometime now that being able to mimic someones way of speaking, a sort of mirror image of their speech, is a good way to help them understand you better.

I realised this when speaking with foreign people who can speak and understand English. Whilst your typical Nordic guy can sound like a native speaker if they mimic the natives the people from asia, Eastern Europe/Russia and India have difficulty when speaking English and being understood.

If I were to speak French as a non-native speaker would my ability to mimic how a French person talks increase my chances to be understood and thus understand the language better?

I also find languages such as Russian to be crude on the ears. Does this hinder native speakers of these countries when speaking English?

I notice this in Ireland with German girls.
They adopt the Irish accent quite easily, I think partly cos they drop the 'g' at the end of verbs like many Irish do.
I think it's cos of action verbs in German like 'laufen', 'kochen', etc, many ending with 'en'
So the Irish tendency is often to say "It's rainin'" or "I was 'walkin' home earlier", rather than the correct 'raining'/'walking'.
But the Germans are well used to the 'en' ending to words, so they pick this up very easily.
