<- has some seat time, but it has been a while since racing regularly and my helmet is dusty. No race car anymore, just a quick street car I barely ever drive...

These days I drive like a grandma in the street. It's too easy to get way past the speed limit and I'm tired of tickets.

Agreddor, the driving you describe is not "high performance," smart, or mature. Public roads are not racing circuits, and assuming that you may actually be above average in car handling capability, do you really want to perform the maneuvers you mentioned around the average or below average driver that may not be able to respond correctly?

Im very very cautious when I pull stunts like that (checking blind spots constantly, making sure there are no bikes, lane guarding etc...) and most of the time I'm in a hurry so I tend to drive fast. Plus I like the thrill of speed. The idea of going to a circuit is very appealing to me, how has your experience been so far?

Disagree. I had dudes in pickup trucks and buick regals trying to drag race me while I had my evo. I think they just want to see the fast car go fast.

I don't know where you all live but the cops in my area will ticket you for the smallest of infractions. Tailgating, no turn signal, 5 over the limit, etc. That, and you got younger to older aged women on their cell phones not paying attention coupled with the fact that they are shitty drivers is a recipe for disaster.

I don't think "aggressive" is the right word, more like "risky". Driving like a maniac will catch up with you sooner or later. Trust me, the rush of driving fast is nowhere comparable to the thousands in tickets, higher insurance premiums, and medical bills that you'll end up paying.

I drive as quickly as I consider safe for the conditions. I use my turn signals, I stop completely at stop signs, but I'm not against blowing a red arrow left if I'm in a situation where there's visibility for a mile in each direction.

I've had a lot of experience driving all types of different vehicles, from old cars to luxury cars, to low end sports cars, to exotics. I've also driven large vehicles, many different types of trailers, and even tour-bus style RVs. I've also driven on shitty race circuits all the way up to world class circuits and I've spent enough time "at the limit" and "beyond the limit" to have a significantly better understanding of how car's work than your average driver. I also am extra cognizant when driving around large vehicles and trailers. Most people cut them off with reckless abandon not realizing that if they push it hard enough, 20,000+ pounds can push them right to their death.

As others have said, you can't control other drivers, so you always have to consider them in what is "safe." My driving changes significantly with the conditions.

yeah, I regularly track my cars. It's a great way to actually learn how to drive a car and weigh risks in a good way when driving.

needless to say, it's also a great hobby to have - if you own a supercar, I highly recommend going to meetups. You'll get introduced to a bunch of other successful car people.

I drive quite aggressively, but my skills are I'd say also on the upper end of the "normal" drivers. I've driven in -30°C before and in +45°C, in snowstorms and even on an ice road. I mean, having a BMW in the winter was the best driving lesson anyone could have. Either way, I tend to drive aggressively, but at the same time trying to look out for stupidity and decent cornering speeds and I never speed in the city - I know a guy who ran over a 12yo kid and then turned into an alcoholic.. I NEVER want to be in that position. But, it can be summed up as my cousin says .. "the average guy drives fast in a shitty Seat, at least you drive fast in a Porsche"

I got 4 cars, 3 of them stick manuals and one has a paddle-shift auto. I don't bring them on first dates, as I don't want the girls to put me instantly into provider mode just by seeing the car and I want to be able to grab a drink. Taxis all the way

My old man was killed in a car wreck as I was having a phone conversation with him. That time he wasn't being an aggressive driver, but I remember much of my childhood I would get severe motion sickness in the car. I thought that was normal until I realized that I didn't get sick when other people drove or I drove--just when he drove, heh. Like father, like son. I have to consciously swear at myself to put a seatbelt on, make sure the mirrors are right, windows unfrosted, etc.

A few things calmed me down:
1) Afghanistan. You realize a lot of trivial shit just doesn't matter anymore. If you're late, you're late.
2) Audiobooks/spoken word. I actually rather enjoy longer trips and errands now thanks to that implementation.
3) Carrying a firearm in my truck. No seriously, do you really want to be that lunatic that gets arrested for brandishing a weapon over a stupid argument on the road?

It's still difficult to not go "fast" (5 - 10mph over) on highways, but as long as you're not sticking your neck out on the road, it's all good. Fresh snow and ice also have a tendency to humble anyone's pride. What sticks in my craw about American drivers vice other countries I've driven in is the utter lack of awareness on the part of other drivers and as others pointed out, lack of assertiveness. I can't even say I hate women drivers more than men because at least in America it seems like the vast majority of people on the road (even at rush hour times) are in a completely different world. I guess to me driving is a very conscious effort.

I'm with tawm, after multiple deployments I stopped rushing if I'm late, and I have multiple firearms in the vehicle, which is legal where I live.

I'm just chillin and enjoying US traffic where people are just normal assholes, and not trying to figure out special ways to end my existence.

What does piss me off is people texting and or talking on cellphones completely oblivious to everyone else.

This is FAR more dangerous than an aggressive driver who has both eyes and all attention on the road.

This isn't true. I have an older one, the Beltronics RX65-Red Professional Series Radar Detector and it works fine.

If cops here have their roving radar on I can detect them from almost a mile away with the detector amping up its beeps and lights as I draw closer. I can also detect laser, but not as well since the RX65 is older. Thankfully most departments in my area don't use laser, they use KA band radar, however I'll probably upgrade in a couple years if I catch wind of them making the switch.

This thing is pretty sensitive, though. It picks up all different bands and shit like burglar alarm motion detectors, red light camera stuff, those annoying digital speed sign reminders, etc. etc. A lot of that stuff is on X band, which you can turn detecting off for if you want. I've been too lazy to do so, however, and I like that it picks up red light cameras (even though I don't run red lights and would never recommend anyone doing that, those little fuckers can allegedly nail you for a rolling stop).

If you're going to buy a detector you should check Youtube for reviews and videos of it being used before purchasing.
