"MIT is indefinitely removing retired physics faculty member Walter Lewin’s online lectures from MIT OpenCourseWare and online MITx courses from edX, the online learning platform co-founded by MIT, following a determination that Dr. Lewin engaged in online sexual harassment in violation of MIT policies."


If you have ever done any physics in life, you will know that his lectures were legendary. All news articles that report him being fired do not get into any details about the harassment. MIT's website provides some examples of verbal harassment:

"Examples of verbal sexual harassment may include unwelcome conduct such as unwelcome sexual flirtation, advances or propositions or requests for sexual activity or dates; asking about someone else's sexual activities, fantasies, preferences, or history; discussing one’s own sexual activities, fantasies, preferences, or history; verbal abuse of a sexual nature; suggestive comments; sexually explicit jokes; turning discussions at work or in the academic environment to sexual topics; and making offensive sounds such as smacking or licking lips, kissing sounds, or "wolf whistles.""

Given that his alleged harassment was done online, it must have been verbal. I am going to be very pissed at the MIT administration if it was over some comment like "Nice shoes" or something.
