Sure I own a smart phone and have a facebook page but my life does not revolve around them like most other people I meet in this world.

It's not like that. In developing nations the satellite is up in the sky and cell towers can be placed for cheaper then laying down landline. Africa waa on smart phones before North America and still have better phones and in many places better services and prices then in North America. Canada has worse cell service and higher prices then Rwanda, that should tell you how smart phones are a different ball game over there. For the majority of people it is thier main phone.

Some dude in the bush isn't on BBM or Imessage. But for the masses whom live normal and maybe frugal lives a smartphone is a necessity and not the luxury that it is here. They just do it more effecneint and cheaper then we do plus they always had a direct line to the newest phones from Asian and Europe.

I don't think using your phone in the gym is inherently bad, I use mine for music. What are you supposed to do, buy an MP3 player exclusively for the 2.5 hours a week you spend in the gym?

I will never acknowledge using smartphones for logging and planning your daily activities, be it lifting, eating, running, dating, planning business meetings or anything else. I think all people who do it lack imagination and are sheep.

I use a paper notepad for this purpose - this way I can write much faster in at much more free form in my planning than in a phone. Paper allows me to create my own unique templates and acronyms and I have no use for 100 different apps an planners. Paper allows me to be creative instead of a phone that limits creativity with pre-made templates. I am independent of apps and electrical sockets and my personal information is much safer this way. Plus writing with a pen is good for brain while smartphones dumb you down. And notepads have no ads.

I have a smartphone and use it for internet access when I am not in front of PC - about once a month. or when I am traveling as GPS - about once a year. For calls I use a dumbphone because buttons allow for much faster calling and texting.

I check my mail once a day on a PC, if I am on Holiday I might skip a day. I don't allow spam, work mails and "friends" requests for more gaming credits form social sites to disturb me in my life.

Smartphones are terribly overused and make people unhappy addicted zombies. I am free from this shit.

Also there will is a big chance the phones will cause a huge increase in macular degeneration due to the type of blue the screen emits. Might be a lot of blind old millennials in the future.

Granted they are selling something but there are tons of articles like this on the web as well. The research is accumulating on the damages of the high vibration lights at high exposures. Each light wave has a different speed and I believe blue is the fastest.

Excellent point. I know I use something called f.lux for when I'm on the screen at night, and Twilight for Android. Always keep my eyes at the very edge of clear vision as well. For anyone that wants to sort their eyes out, Frauenfeld Method is something to look into. Or you could go and drop a comment on Jake's blog at cedonulli.com . He introduced me to the basics of eyesight restoration. It doesn't take that much work to make your eyes a lot better.

But yeah, as a general point. humans weren't built with staring at the same spot on an artificial light source for hours a day in mind. It's something everyone should think about whenever they can.

Ha. They really think that smartphones will still be main form of communication in 5/6 years time? I would say it's near certain that a new technology that surpasses and replaces the smartphone will be developed before then.

A properly set-up and optimized smartphone is a tremendous tool in the hands of a skilled player...but I look around and see girls at the bar not dancing and mingling, and instead with their faces buried in their iPhones, and realize I'd rather go back to a simpler time when we weren't being constantly surveilled and monitored and connected to all the lame fluff that we had to wait until we got home and booted up our PCs to get.

I have my iPhone for music, Skype and a few apps dedicated to finding bitches and chatting with them. I have a 4, I'm not killing myself because I can't afford a 6, I'm not on my browser 24/7 and I don't have Facebook or Instagram, I have it out of necessity. I don't like it any more than the rest of you, but you gotta adapt. The monster of validation has again reared its ugly head, and it's not going away.
