Cold night in Reading, I think it was Halloween. I went by train to watch Arsenal play in the Capital One Cup. What happened is one of the most amazing matches of football ever played. Lower league Reading jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first half. We proceeded to come back from 4-0 down and in literally the last kick of the game we equalized at 4-4.

In added time we went up 5-4, then gave up an equalizer. And then managed to score two more in stoppage time of extra time to win and advance. It was incredible.







Still my favorite goal ever scored though. We became of the few teams to actually beat a Pep Guardiola Barcelona team in the champions league. God I about exploded when this went in. ARSHAVIIIIIN!

Fantastic thread Capitao!
Tons of unforgettable moments that gives you the goose bumps. For me, as a huge football fan, 99% of them are from the Beautiful game. Some watching it on TV and some watching it live in some of the most legendary stadiums in the world.

The atmosphere inside the stadiums in South America and even more so in Brasil and Argentina is 2nd to none. Even the very hot atmospheres in the big European stadiums in comparison look like a boring thing. Had the pleasure of watching a few games at the Maracana in Rio and at la Bombonera in Buenos Aires. Watching Boca live a few times was THE highlight of my trip to BA a few years ago. Electrifying atmosphere like I'd never experienced before.

To anyone traveling to South America, even if you're not a footie fan, make yourself a favour and go watch football match live at the stadium. Even more so at a big stadium for a big club. You will be blown away like you can't imagine and you'll understand why football is called The Beautiful Game.

Capitao, that Flu-Boca game in the 1/2 final of Libertadores in 2007, I was in Rio at the time as it was during my 3 months in Brasil. After eliminating the Mighty Boca, Flu met in the final a team from Ecuador. I was in Rio at the time and only realized the game was there the day before the final as I had to fly back home. That's one of my biggest regrets so far not having watching such a huge final.

Watching a football match in SA is a big treat.
Watching a football match at the Maracana is an unforgettable experience.
But watching a major final between 2 great teams with one being a huge Rio team, is a one of a lifetime opportunity.

I have many, way too many moments that gave me incredible, super intense feelings. Some of the strongest emotional roller coasters I've experienced in my life have been watching major football games. Way too many to mention.

One of the most unforgettable moments I've witnessed in a football match was this:
Watching your favorite player take and score the winning penalty in the biggest club football game in the world, against an archi rival. I was in a bar in downtown Toronto for that match. The bar was full of Juventini fans and I was among the only 2-3 Milanisti there. When Sheva scored that final winning goal, I went boinkers! Jumped on the table and started dancing and screaming off the top of my lungs! The bar, was silent as a church as all the Juve fans were pissed royally. Incredible moment! Each time I see it, I get goosebumps even 11 years later!





Another match that I will never forget. 2nd round of the 2006 WC between France and Spain. This is the game that launched the WC for France in that tourney where they showed and proved beyond any doubt that they still had it in them to make some noise. And noises, boy did they make plenty from that point on! The below video is the goals with the comments from my favorite commentators, from the French radio RMC along with spanish commentary from Spanish radio. When El Cavallero del Futbol, Zidane scores the 3rd goal, I went nuts nuts nuts! Goosebumps like rarely if ever before!





When people mention France-Brasil, the first thing that comes to mind is the 1998 WC final or the 2006 1/4 finals. However, for me, the one that comes to mind is the legendary 1986 1/4 finals in Mexico in what has been so far, the most entertaining, the most action packed match of football I've seen in my life to date. I remember, it was my very first world cup. I was only 5 years old watching the game at some relatives house. That match is how a perfect football match should be. That is non stop action from the first to the last kick of the ball. Where both teams are refusing to defend and going at each other non stop. The way a playground football match is but this is at the highest level, among 2 of the best teams in the world, packed with world class players. Giresse, Tigana, Fernandez, Platini on one side versus Socrates, Careca, Zico, Alemao on the other end. I believe FIFA named this the greatest world cup match ever rightfully.





Watching this guy, the most electrifying player I've seen, gave me goosebumps all the time. What a travesty that he never won the Ballon d'Or! Specially in 2002 where he was ahead and shoulders above all the rest.




The best for the last, the greatest, the most elegant, the most charismatic, the most complete, the very best in one word. El Maestro, El Caballero del Futbol, Le Maitre. Or simply and more humbly as he would want, Zizou. My idol!

My favorite player of all time.

I think that this orchestra/violin/cello type medley is the only type of music that you can play while watching Zidane, nothing else works.

For me - the 2005 Champions League Final beats it all, AC Milan the top team in Europe were up against Liverpool in Istanbul, who finished 5th in their league and had a new manager. Milan went 3-0 up in the first half, this was a team full of greats - Maldini, Nesta, Shevchenko, Costacurta, Kaka, Rui Costa, Pirlo, Crespo. At half time the Liverpool fans hadn't given up hope, the journey had been amazing on route to the final. They nearly got knocked out of the group stages but this goal and the famous commentary that followed saved them. Then they went to Leverkusen and scored 3, beat Juventus 2-1 and finally knocked out Jose Mourinho's Chelsea 1-0 at Anfield. Then the final, 3-0 at half time to Milan suddenly Liverpool scored 3 goals in 7 minutes to stun them. The Liverpool goalkeeper then made one of the greatest double saves ever to keep out Shevchenko in extra time before dancing on the line to win the game for them on penalties.

That shit was tense, the great thing or shitty thing was the following year we repeated it all over again in the FA Cup in what has been called the greatest FA cup final ever. Gerrard scored an identical goal to the one above to make it 3-3 in the 94th minute and take Liverpool into extra time where they won on penalties.

Being an F1 fan, some of the shit from the past was just downright out of this world or just deadly.

Ayrton Senna going round Monaco in the same car as team mate Alain Prost yet explaining his has this out of this world experience (hence why he's nearly a minute ahead in the race which you won't see happen again to be honest), unfortunately he crashes as he's too perfect on the circuit. (check out his qualifying lap videos, pretty scary)

It was interesting seeing how that 1976 season unfolded and everything in the background. James Hunt was one cool motherfucker and a player. The F1 post race parties were crazy as fuck.

Yeah I don't know how accurate the movie Rush was but I enjoyed seeing their rivalry and their events recreated. And the movie was also very entertaining.

I grew up with F1 somewhat but I lost interest over the years.

I remember the stories my dad used to tell me about Senna. When he was young and still go-karting, whenever it rained he was out there practicing endlessly, never missed a chance. One of the reasons why he was virtually unbeatable in the rain.

Also he was a great character to look up to as well. I thought about doing an RoK article about why he's a good role model. His discipline (marathon runs), dedication (success in F1) and morals. I remember seeing a video of a time when he stopped during a race or a qualifying lap or something to help a guy that had crashed out of his car.

Also, whenever he won a race he wove the Brazil flag (if I recall correctly). I heard his fatal last race he had the country flag of the driver that had died the previous day during qualifying and he was going to wave it upon victory. Sad, that was a tragic weekend in sport history.

haha. You and I would not have been football friends. The only reason i made my football team was because I could hit people so hard that the snot would literally fly out of them. I couldn't run fast, i couldn't catch shit and I was probably 20 pounds underweight for a starting lineman but I lived to hear that weird whimper/groan noise a person would make when you hit them so hard you knew it hurt them and they wouldn't be getting up after the play. If someone held me, they'd get an uppercut under their facemask or a cleat on the back of their hand when they were getting up.

I loved the fact that someone invented a 'game' where I could take out all of my anger on the 'cool kids' (QB's and RBs) where instead of getting suspended, arrested or jumped later I would be commended. I played the game to hurt people, and that probably kept me out of jail as a teenager.

It was during practice, Comas crashed at 180mph, Senna stopped got out of his car, stopped his engine, pulled him out of the car and held his head stable. He saved his life and in a cruel turn of events when Ayrton Senna died, Comas was in the pits and came roaring out and narrowly missed a helicopter, medical staff and stewards who were tending to Senna. He immediately retired from the race and from what I've heard never recovered mentally from that incident.





I watched the last 4 years of Senna's career as my dad loved F1, he was one of my sporting idols, being a young lad his death crushed me and the whole of Brazil from what I saw. He was a great role model, the Senna documentary was amazing.

Even now the F1 drivers are as athletes supreme, their dedication is to winning at all aspects of life. Guys like David Coulthard, Button etc all live the high life banging hot bitches, partying on yachts in St Tropez etc but also ensure they are disciplined. Jenson Button for example competes in triathlons when he's not racing.

As a New Yorker, I vividly remember that cold winter night in 2012, when Mike D'Antoni lost both Carmelo and Amar'e and was down to the last few men, when he put a little asian kid in the game that was cut by two teams and on a 10 day contract.

I'll never forget about a week later watching him drop 38 on the Lakers and beat the Raptors with a game winning shot.

Linsanity lives in the hearts and minds of all Knicks fans, a true cinderella story.
