Wich skills are quick to acquire to work freelance?
The obvious one seems to be the copywritter path, but considering that i'm not a native english speaker, i probably would need to find a proofreader. And the spanish gigs are not very well paid for what i have seen.

I have read arround this forums that getting into social media marketing is not hard at all, contrary to learn SEO. I already have some multimedia and wordpress skills, but i think building a portfolio in those to seem credible would take a lot of time (especially in video would require a lot of time and resources). And the competition is still very strong.

Any suggestions?

How about translation from English into Spanish and Spanish into English? If you have industry experience, you can translate industry-specific literature and use your background as your competitive advantage.

Technical writing is a really valuable. The reason is that most people are stupid when using common consumer products, so you have to write the instruction as foolproof as possible.

And almost any foreign language that isn't English, Spanish, or Chinese. A buddy of mine is native Nigerian and also some picked up some Arab from Marine deployment. He does freelance jobs on eLance and Amazon Mechanical Turk. He made about $30,000 from doing basic transcription tasks on AMT. The key is to pick a niche that you are good at that pays relatively well. Mine is translating between Chinese dialects (there are 54 recognized minority tribes in China). For me these usually are good for $15 for maybe 8 minutes of work.

Brodiaga.

I thought it was probably somebody would suggest that, but thank you.

The problem is that i have not industry experience, i'm pretty young. I think the english-spanish translation is one of the most down to earth paths that i can take from now, for what i have heard there are a lot of bilinguals with those too languages, so the payment maybe not so good as with other most specialized skills. It is good as you say, with specific knowledge about particular industries. But yes i'm looking for something like that to start as soon as possible. Maybe i will do that.

Have you tried searching the forum?

The problem with spanish/english and english/spanish translations is that there are too many people willing to do it for CHEAP prices. I mean, horrendously cheap.

Since you're Argentinan the wages seem better (compared to someone in the US).

The problem is, how do you plan to go through Kichner's monetary controls in regards to bringing your money from the interwebs?

Yes i have, for that reason if you read the first post you would realize that i ignored that option and just discussed it when the other users asked me about it. I have already found a couple of post where was explained that there is tons of competition for the english/spanish translation gigs. I just said it is something that i can start doing easily. On the other hand, most of chicanos that i have met are actually not very good at writting or even speaking in spanish, with the exception of those who were born in Miami. So i thought maybe i can compete in quality at least.

I'm not pretty sure that i would get better wages for being in Argentina, the reason that i'm looking to get a freelance income is because local full time average income is about 6500 pesos/500 dollars month. Foreign currency is very valuable, because as you said, we are screwed by local regulations, so getting an income in dollars would be ideal, i already have a foreign account, so getting the money from abroad would not be a problem.

Anyway, as i said, being a translator wasn't my plan actually, i'm just thinking about it and considering the benefits. This thread point is actually about finding the most valuable skills to start making money as soon as possible. As i mentioned, the consensus that i found in the forum is to become a copywritter, that is a valuable advice for someone who is a native english speaker, i'm not sure i have the language skills.

You are right, thank you. Coding is one of the most obvious choices that i thought, the problem is that it would take some time to learn. As i said, i have some experience with basic html and css customization in wordpress themes. Can you elaborate about what kind of gigs there are for WP and what kind of skills would be good to learn?
