Pennsylvania has the death penalty, although I believe it has been many years since they have actually executed someone. If these two are convicted, they are likely to get the death penalty, but are not likely to actually be executed. He used to beat the shit out of me. He used to get down on his knees and punch me in the face. Once, he handcuffed me to a chair and beat me with a big metal serving spoon. He used to throw away my toys and break my stuff.

I used to go to school with black eyes occasionally. The police came to my house once but they didn't really do anything.

After a few years, I moved in with some other relatives.

I have only talked to my mom a few times since then.

I don't think she wanted a child. Obviously, her boyfriend did not want me around.

I feel lucky to be alive. My mom was advised to have an abortion. Her boyfriend could have easily killed me with one of those punches to the face.

This thread reminds me that my mom and her boyfriend are really some low lives.

I'm lucky this didn't happen to me.

I'd represent anyone I didn't have a personal conflict of interest in.

First, you really never know at first look what the truth is, for example child abuse charges are often trumped up in divorce cases, and I've had cases where I thought the guy was guilty for most of the case and it turned out he was absolutely innocent through discovered evidence. Of course this is a common movie plot, but it happens in real life.

Second, as a criminal defense lawyer it's not your job to decide guilt or innocence, only to test the facts and law of the prosecution, and that's a mindset.

Third, I thought it was a duty to take the hard jobs. Really, the most thankless but necessary job in lawyering is taking up the defense in a heinous life felony or capital case where the evidence of guilt is strong. You're going to get ripped in the press (and now in comments on the internet) for making the arguments and presenting the zealous defense you're ethically bound to make under the rules. And then when you lose, the follow-on appeals lawyer is going to have to argue you were incompetent, because he or she has to try everything, too.

Send an anonymous letter to his workplace saying you're a woman and he sexually harassed you. Even if this doesn't get him fired, it's likely to set off a ripple effect of problems and get him viewed suspiciously. People can sense people who are "off" (i.e. child molesters) and I bet they're looking for a reason to fire him or reprimand him.

If you do this and mail the letter, I'd recommend making sure your fingerprints aren't on it, the envelope or the stamp and that you mail it from a postal code that isn't near you.

Sounds complicated, but it's actually pretty easy to wear cleaning gloves to retrieve a piece of printer paper, address and envelope and place a stamp. Winter is coming, so just bring gloves in the car for when you drop it in the mailbox.

This idea is also effective if you write up three letters, and send them in three succeeding weeks.
