Black in Latin America
Sup fam,

Hawvurd Pro Louis Gates has 4 part documentary called Black in Latin America coming out over the next two months...I think his first episode is next Tuesday and references DR/Haiti. He's the guy Obama had a beer with alongside a Boston cop who tried to kick his ass for being black and owning a nicer home (LOL, I kid)..

No racial flaming...this is just for ppl who enjoy latin america culture/history and want to learn more..

RE: Black in Latin America
The problem with Gates is that he's a clueless Uncle Tom and apologist. I have seen a couple of his "documentaries" on Netflix if you can call them that. For example, in one scene totally out the blue he was in Addis Ababa having his shoes shine by an older Black gentleman while having the biggest fucking grim I have ever have seen. As a Professor of Black History in the premier university in the U.S. he's very well aware of the symbolism of shoe shinning at least when it pertains to Black History. The fact that he was doing this in Ethopia of all places is inexcusable. I also thought that he was very condescending to the point of being disrespectful and douchy to the subjects he was covering.

RE: Black in Latin America
While we're on the subject of "Hawvurd", I go to another Ivy and have taken a few African Studies courses here, where I've seen most of Gates' films.

I came to the exact same conclusion as playa_with_a_passport, as did many of my classmates. The guy moves around in these shows like he lives in an Ivory tower, and condescension seems too evident in his conduct.

Know your enemy and know yourself, find naught in fear for 100 battles. Know yourself but not your enemy, find level of loss and victory. Know thy enemy but not yourself, wallow in defeat every time.
