Who here has a Series 7 license? My company wants me to get one so I just started studying. How long did it take you to study and how hard is the exam?

It's a very easy exam. Take practice tests as you study to see where you're at and which areas you need to spend more time on.

I had it, but it's since expired as I'm no longer in the industry.

Do you have a finance education? If so, it'll be much easier as you'll have already seen all the material at least once. Start reading through the denser chapters when you have free time a week or two before, then spend about two or three days cramming for it right before you take it. And yeah, practice tests are kind of the trick. I think you could pass it by taking practice tests and reviewing the material for concepts you're missing questions on.

It is easy, but people make a big deal about it as it's the "harder" of the series tests. You'll be fine. I think I scored an 88% or something studying only a couple of days. Your company should give you a day or two off to study, but if they don't it's not a huge deal, just schedule the test for a Monday and study 8-10 hours Saturday and Sunday. I've only known one person that failed...and he failed twice. Not sure how he did that to be honest.

I don't have a finance education, but I know more about the industry than most people. I have heard flash cards and practice tests are helpful. I've always been the cramming type, but I don't think I should cram on this exam.

Get the Kaplan online course and take 40 question unit tests individually. It will give you the answers after each question and study that way. Focus more heavily on the chapters that are tested the most, i.e. options and munis and dont waste much time on the chapters that arent tested too heavy i.e. margin accounts. If you do this you can pass with couple of weeks worth of study time.
