Yes, they are usually city hall affairs and may or may not have a church ceremony. Even then though, it's usually an all-day affair with a car tour around town, photos and video, silly games, a banquet for 30-50 or more friends and family, at least one professional entertainer / host for the party (who may also run the music if additional musicians or DJ aren't involved). It still adds up, and as the country has gotten wealthier the price tags have gone up as well, particularly on a PPP basis, and aside from the filthy rich, the costs go up non-linearly as you go up in social class in order to impress the right people...not uncommon for weddings to be a good place for the well-connected to mingle.

To clarify on "families support kids until 25" - not necessarily, there's just much more of "I help my kids now - they'll help me when I'm old" mentality in the FSU, most people there would react very negatively to hearing about the "you're 18, out of my house" that is sometimes practiced in the west.

Anyway, I don't think we're in disagreement, maybe we just have different segments of the population in mind.

To continue, the problem for majority of us is that our jobs are not transferable to places like Russia. I could demand a transfer from the multinational company I work with in the near future but would have to move to secondary offices in places like Paris or Geneva which does not make things much better. There are few possibilities in Russia, Ukraine, or Central Asia without taking a massive paycut aka making locals salaries. I am "all ears" to hear stories from expats who have been able to successfully make American dollars (we are talking >$100k) in 1st tier Russian cities. Based on his posts, Roosh got close but even he started to bleed money after just 1 month in Moscow and had to jet.
Unfortunately I see no solution to this dilemma for us "love tourists". It's almost like we are resigned to feasts of one month or so per year (while traveling) but famine for the next 11 months in our western hometowns.

There are jobs in Moscow for skilled IT contractors in finance. I work in software implementation and I had a contract paying 1500 usd a day in Moscow for 18 months between 2011 and 2013, divided in 2 Million rub payed in rub per year for russian tax (to get the HQS visa) and the rest paid in usd by the Bermudan entity of the bank (you know you are in russia when you sign with a bermudan entity lol).
Of course this type of contract you dont get it every time and you know they hire you because they have no choice, no local resources and they are in a hurry to get the job done.
One dimension that you should not forget is that some of the russian guys are capable but in general they are quite lazy. That means that they are ready to pay big money for foreign resources that will do the job for them, and at the end they will claim that they suceed in the project. And if something goes wrong of course it will be your fault, so you are also paid to take this role.

The funny thing is that even with the conditions mentioned above, it was difficult for the for them to attract resources from the west. I also saw some guys with these conditions staying 3 months and then came back to their hometown in us or uk saying that moscow was a nightmare. The left a job paying 30k usd a month so the possibility to have the good life in moscow spending 10k a month and saving 20k to come back to a regular job in the west. Go figure. You understand how pussified our countries are when you see this.

Dude I come from that demographic and I know a lot of men in this space. These are men that are 40s to 60s. Very successful accomplished and they have built up a lot of prestige and with that comes a bit of hubris and pride. I know because I have been there.

It's almost like a house of cards that you have. Built up around you. And you become really careful not to let anything knock it down. Some of these guys were even very accomplished naturals with game earlier in life. So now comes along the manosphere and game it is highly disruptive. And it threatens to demolish their house of cards. They just won't do it. It's not worth it to them. They would rather live their blue pill world with their nasty American bitches for wives or girlfriends than change. That's why you see broke dudes doing this more. They have a more carefree attitude.

Oh fuck when I saw this title I was like "wait a minute if this is Deidre Dare it's incredible she's still out there writing all this "Sex and the City for Moscow" garbage....

She is pretty crazy and from what I know every expat that met her found this out eventually. I never met her but heard plenty of stories a few years ago. Any expat who lived there in period from 2007-2013 knows about her stupid writing and her 'provocative' sex life, a lot of which was apparently bullshit.

If I recall correctly, she was writing all sorts of kinky sex stuff for the Moscow Times or some other publication but then did something wacky to get her fired (think she was making up all sorts of stories and lies about colleagues). She also had some crazy lawsuit she threatened her old law firm with that they needed to settle out of court - some typical Feminist bs workplace harassment charge or something. I think they found out about her writing too and it looked bad for the firm.

She's supposedly a big time cock carousel rider as well (go figure).

I will find out more this is kind of a blast from the past...how is she still out there writing and getting published?
