Who has said suits only?

I wear jeans with sportcoats, which looks fine with the right jeans

But a vest without a jacket almost always looks stupid

^ That filson vest is great. Conservative enough for office attire without being too formal. Planning to get one like it in moleskin.

I've had this black one for close to a decade. Does that make me a hipster before vests were hipster?

The style blog TSBMen just did a post on waistcoats today. The first and last look look good to me, but I'm not the biggest fan of the second one. The guy looks like and is a complete hipster though. The outfits would look better on someone more masculine as other posters have pointed out.

^ Even if the guy was a more fitting model for those clothes, do you really want to game women looking like you're auditioning for The Legend of Bagger Vance?

Fair point, but in my opinion, the second outfit, which I stated I was not a fan of, is the closest match to the Beggar Vance outfit, so I wouldn't be wearing something like that. The first look is pushing the limits of what I would wear. I'd drop the hat, but wouldn't feel like an old timey golfer in it. And the third look is a three piece suit. I'd change the tie, but I have no problem with three piece suits.

You need to have good style knowledge to pull off a casual waistcoat look. And most of all you need the body. Waistcoat highlight your waist (heh) and chest, so if you are ripped definitely wear one. Look at the pics in nemecine post. Beckham looks great in a waistcoat.

The thing is that the people who wear them the most are fucking flower boys. Their legs are so thin you can use them as toothpick. If they wear a waistcoat instead of tightening around the body it hangs loose like a towel you drape over your back. It looks disgusting.

It's all about the body wearing the clothes. A waistcoat can make a skinny manlet look smaller, a hamplanet look fatter and sloppier, but it's fine if you've been lifting long enough for it to show and aren't a committed permabulker.
