I'm in the process of hiring a female model/actress to film a demo of my product. It's basically a couple of short videos of less than a minute each.

I'm in LA so there's a lot of them here. Does anyone know the going rate for this type of work? I'm not using specialized equipment - just a camcorder - and it's really fast - no multiple takes, no production issues..

Maybe I can get them to do it for free if they're new and just want their face out there...?

Also, any legal, contract or liability concerns I should have covered?

depends on their experience. if they're amateurs 25-35/hr. You'll find these on craigslist. If you get from an agency, it'll be more.

you might need a makeup artist too

Legit girls come with legit agencies. Otherwise go with model mayhem. You do need to have a contract. Offer to pay them. Because you'll get more applicants and a paid contact is a legal document. Oh and since you already have a camera all you need is an office. And a couch

Nope you don't have to pay them. just tell them they will appear in this film and they can use it as a portfolio.

go on the craigslist and look at other ads. lots of people are finding interns for nothing (you still have to be hot and qualified)

For models hanging out couple hours? why do you need to pay them? just offer you will buy a meal so you can Get to Know her after the shoot.

If you don't need to film it yourself you can try fiverr and other similiar services.

I am not saying it is the best quality. I am trying to give you possible ideas.

I will say that by not paying, people will be more likely to flake. Especially in LA. That would suck if you had to make other preparations for the shoot (hiring MUA, etc.) If it is just you, then flaking won't so badly affect you.

You should check out the crew ads in LA Craigslist and see how people argue about pay (food and credit is not pay!!! type stuff ).

Model Mayhem. 50 dollars for a shoot of 2hours or 100 for 4-6. Honestly lots of girls will jump at it, as long as you write a non-threatening write-up of what they need to do.

Had no idea it could be so little cash. Now I just need to google, "How to write a non-creepy email."
