Father. Photographer. Child-pornographer?
This is a really interesting story that has been making it's rounds online.

http://petapixel.com/2014/08/22/photogra...responded/

A photographer father went on a road trip with his daughter, and decided to document it in photos. Because she is a two-year old, some of the photos are of her naked. They are not sexual, they are just a two year old running around naked, as little kids sometimes do. However when he posted them online, several massive groups accused him of pedophilia, making child porn, and had his instagram shut down.

In response, he created a gallery show titled I Feel Sorry For Your Children: The Sexualization of Innocence in America combining the photos with what people online have said about them.

What's more interesting is that every news outlet covering this story has included the photos. If they truly believed these were child porn, they would not risk showing them.

What a strange age we're living in where the news feels comfortable showing accused child porn, but not comfortable reporting the negative actions of adult women.

If you want to see the photos, and hear the dad speak on camera, watch this really well-put together short documentary here. I recommend checking it out. The dad seems very well spoken and like a genuinely talented artist.

Read my work on Return of Kings here.

Americans mostly want to feel offended about something.

On the other hand, if I had a 2 year old I wouldn't want to take naked pics of her and post on the internet even if it's art, and I'm glad my parents didn't do the same to me.

He should have known this would cause controversy. Maybe he did and is playing it up to boost his standing in the arts community. There's nothing like a martyr to bring out the crowds.

Anyway, he didn't invent this. Back in the '80s a female photographer named Starr Ockenga made headlines far and wide when she exhibited photos of (get this) nude infants. People protested at her exhibits -- most the religious right.

Yes, I know nude infants shouldn't be cause for scandal, but this is America, and like Moster said, people here have the need to be offended over something. Someone should write a book: "A Confederacy of Hysterics."

As for the photographer here, he should be happy all he got was an online account removed. Around five years ago, Wal-Mart's photo developing department called the cops on an Arizona couple when they spotted some nude bathtub pics of their children. The parents had their children taken away by the state's Child Protective Services.

USA! USA! USA!
