Hillary isn't really a feminist. She's the very definition of an amoral ambitious politician with no actual ideals or moral scruples. These are people who are willing to do whatever it takes and appeal to whoever to get to where they believe they should be. The U.S. is a great environment for these political sociopaths. It's not quite so machiavellian like in the developing world that you risk getting killed for making the wrong play. However, the rewards are just as juicy as any 3rd rate nation when you have success.

I gauge what I've heard she said. Is there anything in particular that gives away that she only says what she thinks is a popular view and not what she really thinks herself?

Given the current public political environment in the USA, you may a well put Queen Elizabeth II on all the bills and come back into the realm. The US today has strayed so far from it founding principles of personal liberty that you may as well have a monarch, and why not QE II? She's already well known in the country and speaks English, so it's not like you'll be getting some unknown foreign monarch. Also, you'll be able to take art in the next commonwealth games and score loads of medals.

I have no problem having a woman on if she has truly achieved something on the level of Ben Franklin. Unfortunately the people actually campaigning for a female icon are doing so in a sexist, agenda driven way, and not a meritocratic way. I cannot support that.

If they are really serious about equality and merit, they should be campaigning to have Martin Luther King put on the notes instead of people like Eleanor Roosevelt or Margaret Sanger.

Andrew Jackson, good, bad, or ugly- is on the $20. I have no problem with him being voted out. Whatever, he was probably an asshole that didn't even want to be a figure head in the first place. But my VERY FIRST thought was... where are MLK, Frederick Douglass, George Washington Carver, Booker T Washington, Jackie Robinson, etc.? No where. Not even an option.

This strikes me so far from my core. If I thought this was about extrapolating Andrew Jackson in favor of a more significant figure I would be ok with that. But the guise of Trail of Tears/Slavery to justify a woman on a piece of paper currency without mentioning a single male option in the ruse of some alleged print-worthy community approval is an insult to us all and the men who have given everything to make this world a better place.

He's actually becoming more popular in academic circles. There's been a shift in his image from "horrible, racist Indian hater" to a man of his times. The Indian Removal Act was designed as part of Jackson's populist platform.

Of course, this is American History 101 for many of us: we ignore the unsavory parts of American History except when it fits a particular social agenda. For example, the Chinese Exclusion Act is fairly well known. On the other hand, people know very little about the "nativist" movement or the 1831 Philadelphia riots.
