Getting on the Obamacare
My student health insurance is running out soon so I'm looking to get onto Obamacare.

What should I be on the look out for? I'm a healthy guy in his 20s that rarely gets sick and pretty much has never had any sort of serious injury or illness. Throw any tips and hacks you guys have at me.

Probably a Bronze plan (will cost the least but also cover the least).
Will cover the basics like annual physical and emergency care.

You can comparison shop here:

Depending on the state you live in, you'll have to go to either a state-run healthcare exchange site or the federal-run healthcare exchange site.

While I'm all for everyone having health insurance I often ask myself....

The last time I saw a doctor was 6 years ago and don't do risky stuff. Why the fuck do I need health insurance?

The bronze is the least costly but it's still too much for a healthy man in his 20s. Or you can not have health insurance and pay the 1% tax/penalty (it is supposed to go up every year).

Also, you can stay on your parent's plan until you're 25 y/o, if that applies to you.

The downside of opting to pay the penalty in lieu of insurance is if you have an accident or get sick. You will not be able to then decide to sign up and have those bills retroactively covered.

RE: Getting on the Obamacare
You most likely will have to sign up directly with an insurance company. Most exchanges (federal and state run) are closed as it is not open enrollment now. You also need a "qualifying" event within the last 60 days. Getting kicked off your parents insurance would be such an event, but it must be within 60 days of it ending or you need to wait for the next open enrollment period.

https://www.healthcare.gov/glossary/open...nt-period/

I just went through this so I read up on it. :-) Find the biggest insurance companies in your state and go to their websites / give them a call to find out options. Bronze plan is prob the way to go.

Oh the other thing to keep in mind is: every plan that they offer ON the exchange must be offered OFF the exchange too. So you can get the same ACA compliant plans (no pre existing condition exclusions and good drug coverage etc) and pay the same price as long as you have one of the listed exceptions. Otherwise you might be out of luck till Jan 1 2015

It's just another angle manufactured by the boomers to get you productive millennials to pay their bills and cost you more.
