BALTIMORE — A gynecologist who secretly used a pen-like camera to record hundreds of videos and photos of his patients’ sex organs during pelvic exams will cost one of the world’s most prestigious medical centers $190 million in a settlement with more than 8,000 women.

Dr. Nikita Levy was fired in February 2013, days after a co-worker alerted authorities at Johns Hopkins Health System about her suspicions. He was forced to turn over the camera, and committed suicide days later. Investigators discovered roughly 1,200 videos and 140 images stored on a series of servers in his home.

“All of these women were brutalized by this,” said the women’s lead attorney, Jonathan Schochor. “Some of these women needed counseling, they were sleepless, they were dysfunctional in the workplace, they were dysfunctional at home, they were dysfunctional with their mates. This breach of trust, this betrayal — this is how they felt.”

The preliminary settlement approved by a judge Monday is one of the largest on record in the U.S. involving sexual misconduct by a physician. It all but closes a case that never produced criminal charges but seriously threatened Hopkins’ reputation.

Lawyers said thousands of women were traumatized, even though their faces were not visible in the images and it could not be established with certainty which patients were recorded or how many.
Hopkins said insurance will cover the settlement, which “properly balances the concerns of thousands of plaintiffs with obligations the Health System has to provide ongoing and superior care to the community.” “It is our hope that this settlement—and findings by law enforcement that images were not shared—helps those affected achieve a measure of closure,” the hospital statement said, adding that “one individual does not define Johns Hopkins.”

Hospital authorities called Baltimore police just before Levy’s firing. Police and federal investigators said they found no evidence he shared the material with others.

A class-action lawsuit on behalf of more than 8,000 of his patients who contacted lawyers was brought against Johns Hopkins last fall, alleging the hospital should have known what he was up to.
Some women told of being inappropriately touched and verbally abused by Levy, according to Schochor. In some cases, women said they were regularly summoned to Levy’s office for unnecessary pelvic exams.

Myra James, 67, had been going to him for annual exams for 20 years. Since his misconduct became public, she hasn’t been to a gynecologist once.

“I can’t bring myself to go back,” James said. “You’re lying there, exposed. It’s violating and it’s horrible, and my trust is gone. Period.

Nah, more like $15,000, assuming 1/3 to attorneys.

190 Mil x .66 =125.4 Mil divided by 8,000 is $15,675.


Just to let you know how class actions work, typically each member of the class must vote on the proposed settlement that the attorneys presented to the court. That means that more woman than not believe that their pussy is worth $15k. I don't know about you, but if this happened to me I would want at least 100k for the intrusion, especially if it caused emotional distress to the point of seeing a professional with meds.

Seeing as how the women voted for this, adjusted for inflation, even women know that the price of pussy is plummeting.

Insane story. Out of those 8000 surely some of them were underage girls going on the pill to 'regulate their period.' One of my best buds is a gyno... that's not a job I'd want to have. Not only because of the old pussy, but the young pussy has to fuck with your head.

So these women paid good money in order to have a dude take a close, hard look at their punani and poke around a bit for good measure. They were cool with that. But the second they realized it wasn't just a dude taking a look, but also an evil, malevolent object consisting of a system of lenses and mirrors that witnessed their jade palace, they lost their mind and became psychologically scarred for life. The modern American female mind is a fragile thing indeed.

Sometimes you do have to wonder about what kind of guy becomes a gynecologists. Why would a guy decide he once to exam vaginas for the rest of his life? I knew a dude in high school that was perverted as hell that said he wanted to be a gynecologist. Not saying all male gynos are pervs but it is a peculiar choice of profession for a man.

I disagree. That's a breach of trust, and truthfully, if I was dating a girl and knew some scumbag doctor was filming her, I would be pissed. In a digital age where videos spread like wildfire, I'm certainly siding with women who feel victimized by this shit.

With that being said, hopefully a scumbag doctor films my junk, 150k is just what I need to cover schooling and living costs for the next couple years.
