“So what do they do? They turn around in their chair and show their co-worker. The co-worker says: ‘Hey that's great. Send that to Bill down the way.’ And then Bill sends it to George and George sends it to Tom. And sooner or later this person's whole life has been seen by all of these other people. It's never reported. Nobody ever knows about it because the auditing of these systems is incredibly weak. The fact that your private images, records of your private lives, records of your intimate moments have been taken from your private communications stream from the intended recipient and given to the government without any specific authorization without any specific need is itself a violation of your rights. Why is that in a government database?”

Of course they would. When I used to find porn on company equipment, the bosses would ask to show it to the first. IT guys will never change.... What I would like to know is what kind of nude photos they were catching or was it all email related instead?

Hell, back when I used to work in photo labs as a teenager, we'd regularly make copies of nudes and pass them around, even though that's highly illegal. People would bring in disposable cameras full of debaucherous nights in hotel rooms and shit.

I remember some guys who worked for Geek Squad at Best Buy, told me that they used to make copies of all the porn on people's computers all the time.

My first job out of college in the early 90's at a defense contractor. My boss showed me how to use our equipment to intercept cell phone calls. He said at his last job they used to do that routinely to alleviate boredom. If the NSA can do it, then the contractors building stuff for them can do it too.

It's not like half that stuff doesn't already end up on revenge porn sites. So working for the NSA is like having a free preview to checkoutmysluttygf.com or whatever.

Years ago Brian Ross at ABC did a story about two NSA military whistleblowers who talked about how NSA was recording conversations of US military and civilian workers in Iraq and how they would pass around audio clips of phone sex, guys calling wives and then mistresses, just for amusement.

I actually find the revelation pretty hilarious, and it also makes complete sense. I have some friends that are completely against the NSA, but I don't give a shit. They probably summarize me as, "Male. Infatuated with basketball. Infuriated by fat people. Looks at studio audio gear too much during work hours."

You can't subpoena NSA and have your file disclosed, but if you have a Google account (you have one if you use GMail), then you can have an idea of what Google knows about you to tailor the ads they show to you.
