G. K. Chesterton Wrote:The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of the Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes being corrected. Even when the revolutionist might himself repent of his revolution, the traditionalist is already defending it as part of his tradition. Thus we have the two great types—the advanced person who rushes us into ruin, and the retrospective person who admires the ruins. He admires them especially by moonlight, not to say moonshine. Each new blunder of the progressive or prig becomes instantly a legend of immemorial antiquity for the snob. This is called the balance, or mutual check, in our Constitution.

I am liberal-minded, yet ultimately conservative in my values/philosophy. I am artsy, yet logical. I am a very abstract, creative thinker; I appreciate the arts, culture, individual expression to a degree. However, I'm also a renaissance man, believer in selfless virtue that puts family and the greater good above individual excess. In the political spectrum, I'm one of those rare types who can combine culturally conservative beliefs with some fiscally populist/statist/third-way beliefs.

Of course you can; it all depends on whether you split your affiliations based on the groups of issues that you face. For example, you can be a conservative when it comes to economic issues and a liberal when it comes to social issues. In this case, you're all for people doing whatever the hell they want but you want to make sure the funding for these issues doesn't affect the greater good.
