"A Texas woman who seriously injured her son and then tried to repair the injury with superglue pleaded guilty and was sentenced Thursday to two years in prison. Jennifer Vargas, 34, was arrested last fall by the FBI and charged with assault after she admitted to yanking her 6-year-old son's genitals out of anger. The sudden pull tore a 1.6-inch laceration in the boy's scrotum."

My feeling: If parents can get their sons circumcised without their consent (and without anesthesia most of the time), why can't they just rip their 6-year-old's scrotum? We're only talking about a difference in degrees here. He's a few years older than most boys who get circumcised and I'd argue his injury is less a big deal that the permanent removal of a foreskin.

This woman should not be in prison, IMO, and we're hypocrites as a society for putting her there. Full story and link below. I'm not posting her pic here because if I did, I'd have to post every pic of every doctor and rabbi guilty of genital mutilation, and I'm too busy for that.

Jennifer Vargas, 34, was arrested last fall by the FBI and charged with assault after she admitted to yanking her 6-year-old son's genitals out of anger.

The sudden pull tore a 1.6-inch laceration in the boy's scrotum. Vargas then cleaned the wound with alcohol before trying to seal the gaping hole with superglue, according to KENS.

“She applied superglue to the [boy's] scrotum until the bleeding stopped, stuffed his underwear with paper towels, and then told him to go to bed,” a criminal complaint affidavit said. “Vargas did not seek any type of medical treatment for the child.”

The boy only received medical attention after his father -- an enlisted man at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, where the family lived -- came home to find his son crying. He underwent surgery at San Antonio Military Medical Center.

Vargas expressed remorse for her actions when she went before a judge last week.

“I would like to say that I regret my actions, that I do love my children with all my heart,” Vargas said, calling her kids the “most important thing to me," according to the San Antonio Express-News.

WOAI reports that after 11 years of marriage, the couple filed for divorce. Prosecutors told the station that the boy has recovered and is doing well.

"He's recovered," Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Wannarka said. "He's living with his father and doing very well in school."

Stupid fucking bitch - who in their right mind tries to heal a wound with superglue? I'm guessing she didn't want to take the kid to a hospital because questions would start being asked. One of the linked articles mentions the woman has a long criminal history. Doesn't surprise me.

Yes. Young kids will push the buttons of emotionally immature and make them flip out. It turns into a 6 year old mentality vs. a 6 year old mentality when the parent loses their shit except one of the 6 year olds has 100 lbs on the other, power and money.

Fact: superglue was first developed as a replacement for medical stitches. Was not used for that because it was too effective.

Actually, I once (accidentally) lopped off a bit off my fingers with a box knife, and as I had no medical insurance I made do with krazy glue and bandaids. My fingers are just fine.

Fans of eugenics forget that the system of it favors the minority of people over the majority. They assume the "others" are tossed aside when the crosshairs are also onto them.

Eugenics have, are, and will go on into the future. It's better to take reigns of it then to let people with bad intentions do it. I am in favor of genomic medicine that would help prevent diseases etc. Why wouldn't you be?

This wouldn't be too disenfranchise people but to actually give people more power over their lives and a better shot at having a good one.

That said, I do understand that life is complicated and that some children who face adversity grow up to be amazing people.

I'm suggesting that if we are going to have a thing like a drivers license, maybe we should liscences for other types of responsibilities. Voting could be an example.

This a very touchy subject obviously, and there would need to be a lot of studies to prove whether or not it would better or worse for society.

That said, I think a lot of "non-sexy" problems don't get enough of this kind of attention. Car accidents are immediate and obvious examples of why people need to have drivers lisences. Just because other types of problems are more systemic or not so obvious does not mean that they don't exist.

It's something that I think society should at least consider before rejecting based on a knee jerk reaction that it isn't "natural".

Again I'm not a propenent yet for this stuff, but I do think it's very interesting, and perhaps if more investigations were conducted into the positive efficacy of it, maybe some presently unseen good could come out if it.

EDIT: Certain brands are better than others, but common household superglue is exactly what you use. No "big difference" at all.
