I personally went to Seminary for two years.

Opened my eyes to how hard it is to be in ministry.
You have to deal with a lot of troubled and sometimes crazy people. Those same people you helped might even gossip and backstab you. But I guess its those kind of crazy, troubled people that need help the most.
I left after two years because I just couldn't handle all the drama and pressure that runs rampant in ministry. Takes a special kind of person to be able to handle that stuff. Every pastor, missionary and ministry worker has my respect.

You also need to be open-minded in a Seminary. There are many branches of Christianity with differing views on certain things. Apply this to a seminary, where people from all branches of Christianity come together and study. Not all of them necessarily agree with each other.
In my Pneumatology class, the professor and a student got into a heated argument on tongues. Lol. That was a pretty funny experience.

My Apologetics professor is literally a huge troll and loves making people from other religions angry. No kidding.

I liked this college. I love my professors and I look up to them as spiritual role models. But pressures of ministry eventually burned me out.

Can you explain what drove you away from it? I'm curious on your views. If it's too personal I apologize for asking on an open forum! I'm still weighing my options at this point.

At the same time Chrisitianity was a beautiful thing when you consider the time and place it arose, and it still is for many very charitable and loving people.

I believe Christ was a schizophrenic or bipolar genius. At that time, I think you could kill a slave with no consequence , they weren't seen as human.

Christianity advocated the idea that every person "has a soul" --has some value-- which I think is wonderful.

But there's no Daddy in a throne. Please be serious here, you can't point to anything but mumbo jumbo that pointing to anything is a mistake.

Buddha was far smarter but his lessons are too harsh for the masses. Everything changes.

Let the masses believe Christanity if they behave, it's more important for them to be happy than for me to be right. Do you stand there and yell at an enthralled six year old on Christmas Eve that there's no Santa Claus?

Don't be a dick, I say. That coincidentally is very similar to Christ's saying "I have told you ....faith, hope, and charity, but the greatest of these is charity. "

Christ was a spiritual genius. You don't have to go off the deep end of swallowing medieval primitive physics to appreciate that.

Its not the college that drove me away. I loved it there.

Its the responsibilities of a ministry worker that burned me out.

- being in ministry full-time is expensive and brings in little money (be prepared to be broke)
- juggling a secular job with ministry is almost near impossible
- sermons and group studies take a lot of time to plan properly
- people expect you to be perfect
- people are fast to criticize every move you make
- people expect you to be available 24/7 for help
- you can't be single (if you are single, you will be surrounded by thirsty 'Christian' women who want to marry you)
- overall diffucult and thankless job

I just couldn't handle the responsibilities and started half-assing stuff.
Eventually I quit, because half-assing in ministry is a recipe for disaster.

Just a small warning, you have to be prepared for all of the above to work in ministry.
I wasn't prepared and I failed.
