You're right, tons of comments talking about how he's not attractive, he looks like a bad person, mug shots aren't cool, etc.

I know in Japan tattoos are not cool. (Unless you're yakuza). Being a criminal is also a much bigger black mark; felons are despised and don't integrate back into Japanese society, not in any kind of notable way. (They'll never become salarymen or take any "respectable" position).
