Exclamation Help! How to unlock a Asus U32V laptop?
All of a sudden my Asus U32V laptop has gone totally black.
Actually it happend on the same time I switched from Russian to Latin letters but I think it isn't related.

When I push the power button the laptop starts and the fan starts going but the screen is black. The power button is lighten up and also the light from a lock icon called "lock 1"

I have tried to take out the battery and restart a million times but nothing helps.
I've tried all day to find a solution on Google or Youtube but no.

Now I hope that some clever RVF member has the solution for me.
Ask me if you need more info.

1000 thanks in advance for he who can help me out.

Restart and hold F2, F8 or Del. one gets you into the bios. One chooses boot options and one is start up in safe mode. I don't remember which is which.

Boot up with a Windows 8 install disc and do a system refresh. You won't lose anything.

Is the backlight of the screen on? Do you see it glow? You should at least see the asus logo booting up. If you don't see that then your screen might be bad.

If you do see the boot logo then something messed up your video driver or Windows boot partition.

Nope. Totally black and nothing happens.
Only the power button and the lock icon light is on.

Sounds like a motherboard failure.

Is it still under guarantee?

Sounds like a graphics card issue (or motherboard issue if the graphics card if integrated with it). I've experienced it twice already and it was repairable easily, although there is no guarantee when the issue is going to appear again.

Take it to a local computer shop. It might be the LCD backlight inverter board. It powers the backlight. Common bad part. You can get parts on eBay and fix it yourself.

RE: Help! How to unlock a Asus U32V laptop?
The problem is you bought an Asus laptop. They are absolutely shit, and their customer service is even worse.

Does it stay on or automatically shut down? Has is been dropped or had a bang recently? If it's still under warranty then take it back to the shop, if not you can either take it to a computer shop or have a go at fixing it yourself.

If you choose to have a go yourself, open it up and look for any loose connections on the cables / solder points etc. The simplest problem is a faulty screen, I've replaced several Asus screens for family and friends. Quite cheap on eBay, just make sure you order the correct one for your laptop model. Easy to fit too, it's only a 10 minute job.

If it's nothing obvious and your not into electronics then take it to a computer shop and see what they say. Most will take a look for free and give you an estimate. It may be worth getting the work done, or just buying something new. If you do get something new, recovering files from the old hard drive is quite a simple procedure.

Asus is a chinese brand. Everything electronic is made in China and Taiwan these days. I wouldn't blame the brand name.

My Asus laptop is a MacBook clone with a touch screen and chicklet keys. Had it about a year. Never had any problems. I bumped the ram to 8gigs and threw in an ssd and it flies.

Thanks guys for your help. Again a reason to be a member of this forum. People are always reaching out.
I think it might be the graphic card. The problem is that I'm on a remote island in Thailand right now. No Asus center or anyhting here.

Asus sucks. Never again.

I assume no lights are flashing when you try to power it on. Take out the battery and see if it'll power up without, sometimes when the battery goes bad the dead cells can keep it from turning on.

Graphics card failure or bad motherboard.

It happened to my HP laptop when I was unplugging it from the power source without the battery on.

It should have a port that you can plug a monitor into it. (the first one on the left) Then you can see if it works with an external monitor and maybe the notebook screen went bad. If the external monitor doesn't work either, it could be the motherboard or internal graphics card.

I wouldn't blame asus either. All of my laptops and motherboards (five in total) are asus. No failures or even minor problems whatsoever and some of them I've owned for several years now.

RE: Help! How to unlock a Asus U32V laptop?
Well well after a lot of searching and asking around I found a geek who run a little computer repairing shop here on this little island.

He could barely speak any English but I showed him what the problem was. He looked doubtful but after 30min I came back and everything was working.

60 baht he said.

1,50€ Smile

No idea what the hell he did.
