LA Uber Driver Charged With Kidnapping After Taking Drunk Woman Home
1. Uber driver is at a high end LA club, Greystone - either because he just got hailed by one of the club workers for a girl, or because he had just dropped someone off there.
2. He gets a female passenger, she's 26 and probably bangable, given the venue.
3. She's drunk as hell, her phone is dead so he may not be able to get her address.
4. He takes her to a motel that he was staying at. Video shows him carrying her into his room.
5. She wakes up in the morning, freaks out about her surroundings, and leaves. He makes no attempt to keep her there except by asking her to stay.

Now he's getting charged with kidnapping. Now we don't have all the facts, but it's not clear to me what the guy should have done. He doesn't have her address, or she's lost her keys, or she's in a state such that it would be dangerous to leave her unattended. If he drops her drunk or passed out ass on the streets, she could get raped. So he takes her to his room, sees she's too drunk to fuck even if he wanted to, and puts her to sleep in his bed.

He could have called the cops I suppose, but who wants to deal with cops for something so minor? And maybe LAPD would've told him to fuck off. The club sure was quick to pawn this girl off on someone else. Maybe if he had taken her to the Ritz Carlton instead of a shitty motel in the boondocks and woken her up with a platter of red velvet cupcakes she would have given him a nice peck on the cheek afterwards instead of a kidnapping charge.

Of course there could be some shady shit going on, but on the basis of evidence so far, I can't condemn the guy. He's also had no prior arrests.

The Uber driver bit aside, this could happen to any one of us - you take a girl home and she's too drunk, so you let her pass out on the couch, and then she flips out upon waking and accuses you of kidnapping her. If I was a girl in this situation I'd be a little leery to be sure, but ultimately I'd ask myself: Am I hurt? No. Am I being kept against my will? No. Then I'd leave.

RE: LA Uber Driver Charged With Kidnapping After Taking Drunk Woman Home
Should have

1) tried to wake her up and ask her where she lived.
2) If she is too incoherent to answer or cannot be woken it could be a life threatening emergency and
he should have brought her to an emergency room, say "I'm a cab driver and she passed out and I don't know where she was supposed to go.

It's mainly the act of going somewhere and getting assistance that precludes the worry you were trying to bang her while she's disabled.

You could probably go to an all night diner and ask for help, someone would call 911 and you would still be off the hook.

3) It's a really good idea not to end up with a dead body in your car.

Dump her on the street near a hospital and leave.

What he did was definitely shady.

I'd be surprised if such scenarios don't happen more often. Uber driver picks up sole girl drunk girls at a club and tries to bang her.

RE: LA Uber Driver Charged With Kidnapping After Taking Drunk Woman Home
maybe not the best idea to bring her back to his hotel. I would have brought her to the police station, explained whats up to the dispatch desk and left her in the lobby. True story on the kidnapping risk though, I was on a bus home with an outrageously drunk girl i had met been on a date for the whole night with and for about 5 minutes she had a disconnect and had no idea who I was, started making a scene etc. The bus driver sort of rolled his eyes in a 'good luck buddy' motion and I just held my hands in the air like it was being a hold up and said "I have no idea what is going on right now". We got to her stop/house and she was still flipping out like it was stranger danger, telling me not to follow her off the bus.

I did not follow, I just waited for the doors to close and told the driver "thats my stop, my car is at her house" and he dropped me off about 4 houses down. The girl was all "HEyyyy, where have you been?!" when I walked up to her and led me into the house. In hindsight, that could have ended very badly if the bus driver or another passenger wasn't cool.

looking for a new signature.

There's no allegations of him banging her. He obviously could have if he wanted to. You're right about what to do, but a lot of people, possibly me included, would just say in the absence of knowing any better, I'll let her pass out at my place and she'll be fine. Not every girl who passes out needs to go to a hospital.

Uber and Lyft should issue directions for these sorts of scenarios, but I doubt they have. Most professional cabbies probably would have just refused to take this girl.

Still, the cabbie aspect aside, it goes to show that taking a drunk girl home can be a dangerous prospect.

That's on him.

Carrying a passed out girl back to your hotel room. Then your shirtless when she wakes up.

Even if he was laying on the floor with his clothes on how did he think this would end?

I agree it looks shady from the outside. Consider it from his perspective. You have a passed out girl in your car. She's breathing fine though. You don't know her address. What do you do?

Maybe you say fuck it, I'll just let her go to sleep next to me and let her wake up. If you had a house party and some girl you didn't know waltzed in and passed out on your couch, you'd probably do exactly that.

Knocking out at a house party and waking up there is different than knocking out in a car and waking up in a motel room.

In the former scenario, you sort of know where you are rather than the latter.

He probably thought he was white knighting.

"She's so pretty when she's sleeping... I'll tuck her in and give her a place to rest."

Bam! Kidnapping charge. That'll teach you to treat hoes like ladies.

But agreed, shadey.

She's already at your house. She came on her own free will. At least in the situation with your house party. No way anyone can claim you kidnapped her.

Same situation with a passed girl in your car if you already knew her and/or she willingly came into your car first.

I get what you're saying though. It sounds like no evidence of assault could be found so sounds like this guy was trying to be a good person.

Maybe he got greedy in the end and hoped he could rewarded with his good deed?

He probably didn't want to dump her off at the police station or hospital because it would have been SUCH an inconvenience for her. If I recall correctly, Uber has a reputation system and imagine how screwed he would be if he had a "this ASSHOLE thought I was sick when I was just sleeping and took me to, friggin', LAPD! AVOID!!!" Nobody, women especially, would want to ride with him after that.

...guess this looks bad on the reputation tracker, too, though...

Ultimately, was this girl victimized in any real sense? No, no she was not (unless I'm missing some key information). This girl needs to harden the fuck up and take some responsibility for getting drunk and getting into cars with perfect strangers.

We're all so used to sending people through the court & prison system for any and every offense, but for something like this it just seems like a huge waste of time. Have the man do community service for a battered women's shelter or something lol.

RE: LA Uber Driver Charged With Kidnapping After Taking Drunk Woman Home
Kidnapping seems a bit stiff, but I can't say it's unfair to this guy that he is being charged with something. Bringing this girl to a MOTEL of all places (and not a private residence) and as a unregulated pseudo cab driver (already a lower class, heavily looked down upon profession) is just asking for it. If you were in the guy's position, you would have to be a complete moron not to be aware of that.

Further, it's really not obvious at all that the logical thing to do was to bring the girl back to his place. Maybe in some small country town where people are more casual about that kind of thing, but in a big city, the idea of bringing a blackout wasted girl with no phone back to my house would be an option very far from my mind if I was in this guy's position. I would probably elect to just dump her on the street somewhere in a populated and somewhat safe area.

I also have to say that, if I was this girl's brother, though I would chide her for being so reckless and irresponsible, I would definitely support her decision to go to the cops the morning after. Do an investigation, make sure no foul play went down. Even if she woke up without feeling harmed, harm still could have happened, and in any case the driver overstepped his bounds and acted badly, and may have potentially acted very badly.

So you'd put a man in prison for a stupid but ultimately harmless move?

Me, I'd tell my sister she's a fucking idiot, that she should stop drinking and thank God that she wasn't raped or killed, and focus her energies towards not being such a fuckup instead of spending months of her life pinning a harmless incident on some guy. This chick is going to get roped into a trial, and she's naturally going to rationalize going through all the effort of charging this dude by making it sound as terrible as possible, theatrics and all.

Agreed. While there should be legislation creating consequences for drunken behavior, the guy was an idiot for doing this. He should have dropped her off at an ER. I believe California has medical amnesty so he wouldn't have had any legal trouble.

Also, the girl is an absolute cunt for getting him in trouble. She would have had thousands of dollars in medical bills if he hadn't done that. Instead of being grateful, she's being your typical rich American cunt.

Edit

Just read that he allegedly tried to have sex with her. If his intention was to bang her, he's in the grey. Filing kidnapping charges makes sense. I only hope they aren't false charges. MikeCF would know more about this guy's legal situation.

Ubers have a charger in the back seat for every type of phone. I would have charged her phone and tried to find out where she lives. Barring that would have taken her to the police station or hospital. Incredibly stupid to take her to his hotel room. If that was my sister, however innocent this seems I probably would have killed this motherfucker.

In this day and age, leave her ass on the street. Unless it comes out that he banged her, he was obviously trying to help her out and do the right thing. Nowadays your protective instinct towards women will not be rewarded, so don't act on it.

When white knighting goes wrong.

He should have dropped her off at the hospital. Or police station. Or any curb in the area. Nah not any curb. That's leaving you in the danger zone of the law as well.

Charging her phone is another option - not sure if the UberX cars have them. With her phone he couldve called her contacts.

"If that was my sister, however innocent this seems I probably would have killed this motherfucker."

If your sister would pull a move like this, chances are she's already a hoe not worth spilling blood over. And even if she wasn't, no, you would not have killed this guy, that's just empty macho posturing.

No I don't have a sister, I'm speaking hypothetically. Yes, I would mess up someone that messed with my family. You're obviously too obtuse to understand simple concepts.
