I think that Anglo-sphere comedy is highly thought of because having a sense of humor is considered a desirable trait and is fostered from a young age.

You are 100% correct here; we place a very high value on humour...more specifically smart humour.

We're pretty awesome really for such a small little country Big Grin

Not much else comes to mind.

Irish TV is the pits. Even Father Ted was produced by Channel 4.

But the average Joe in the street, Irish are lightyears ahead of anyone else.

I really like British humour. But I reckon Irish is drier and more witty.

Irish people don't take themselves too seriously; Irish fuckwits who go for careers in TV do. This is why Irish TV is so fucking awful.

Bang on. Ireland has a hugely disproportionate number of outrageously funny fuckers roaming it's rain sodden streets, but you wouldn't know it by the garbage that turns up in terms of comedy and TV in general.

95% of it is utter bollocks.

I've always been a fan of the more zany type of British comedy.

To me, comedy is about offering escapism from the routine, hum-drum grind of normal life. A life that is, in many ways, distinctly British.

Shooting Stars, The Young Ones, Bo' Selecta - all are completely ridiculous. But that's why I love them.

I think the best comedy (and hence, the funniest people) springs from cultures which are more on the miserable side. Their comedy is the antidote.

Spanish speaking countries have a great sense of humor and since there are so many different Spanish dialects it's quite hard to determine which one tops the other. They're all great IMO.

To state who the funniest is, one has to define what humour is. Humour is cultural and what is funny to one culture may not be funny to other. I grew up in an Anglo society so obviously I relate to Anglo humour.

However, I have not spent enough in another culture to give an objective statement that one culture is less funny than another.

Sometimes the stoic, tongue in cheek humour (Brit) makes me laugh and other times I laugh hard at the blatant in your face American humour. I like a combination of humour so it's not fair for me to say that Brit/US humour is funniest without backing.

For instance, I find Greek Kamaki quite funny and he's a Greek. Maybe my brain honed from Anglo culture is able to derive humour from what he says and how he says it?

The sheer absurdity makes it. Christina Aguilera prancing around a caravan with a Scouse accent is genius.

Bird and Fortune were brilliant.

Also, Brass Eye.

Bonus points for the number of self-righteous pricks they managed to piss off also.
They would be the kind of lads to go to town on something like feminism, pity they're not doing much at the minute.

I have a soft spot for the Americans;
- Married w/ Children
- Seinfeld
- Arrested Development
- Curb your enthusiasm

Then the Brits have stuff like;
- Absolutely Fabulous
- The Office
- Fawlty Towers
- Mr Bean
- Allo Allo

Both American and British comedy have their strengths but the weakness which unites them is the pathetic shit show which the majority of "comedy" shows are these days with audience laughs.

Now Fresh Prince of Bel Air was good with the audience because it was funny but two & half men, how I met your mother, friends? Urgh.
