Social media is driven by teenage girls.

Just ask the youngest girl you're seeing what is in and you'll find out.

Right now, I think the trend is towards social apps with friends that have a level of secrecy: snapchat, whisper, secret, etc. Girls want to attention whore and gossip while staying out of the heat themselves.

I think antisocial media is slowly dying. Nobody cool my age really uses Facebook anymore, only losers are really active on it. I think Twitter is peaking right now. Pretty soon it will go the way of the dodo. I think people are starting to realize that it's stupid and pointless and are reverting back to the more fulfilling actual human relationships. Social media is like crack, you love it the first couple of times you use it (or years) and then you just get bored doing it. Can you imagine a 40-year old single woman still trying to attention whore on twatter? I sure can't.

People will go through their social media phase, which I think lasts like 5-6 years or so, and then will get bored and start having actual human relationships again. The good thing is that people are going through this phase earlier and earlier. Myself for example first got on Facebook about 6 years ago, and now probably use it for a total of like 5 minutes per week, not including chat. But my little sibling got on social media for the first time two or three years ago and they went crazy with it, as in sending out over 30,000 tweets, and now has deleted one of their two accounts, and only uses the other sporadically. People are also starting to realize that no one cares about them at all. People are starting to realize that zero people give any shits about what they ate, who they hate, or with whom they are on a date. I honestly have more hope for humanity than most members of this forum, because I am seeing a decrease in social media usage.

I think one way that each person here can help is to shame people for using their phones when in your presence. I call people out for being dumb attention whores whenever they check their phones, and they use them less and less. One thing I've been doing recently is when I'm eating out with friends, I have everybody put their phone in the middle of the table face down, and whoever uses their phone first gets teased/harassed or has to buy desert or something.

One platform I don't see dying out quickly though is Snapchat. It's like texting on steroids.

I still see lots of @twitter handles/instagram/snapchat on Tinder. I dont approve of any of it unless you're out to make money, fame or business.

It is used by too many people with little else to do and this seeps into mainstream media. "wow this article had 30k likes in 5 hours and was re-tweeted 150k times".....who the fuck cares?

I've been using Twitter for a new business venture. Got a lot of followers and post a lot of tweets. It's total crap...the only leads I get are competitors and people wanting to sell me shit. I really fell for it but it's a total waste of time and I"m going back to old fashioned marketing techniques.
