Good for Dr. Dre. Unlike some other rap stars (Snoop, the late 2Pac, DMX), you don't hear him getting to lots of legal troubles.

Although as a shareholder of Apple, I question the value of this potential move.

It is taking out a huge competitor, because when we think of in-ear audio, beats is the house-hold name. The apple headphones can't compete. Think about new iPhones and iPods with beats headphones included.

Contrast this with Jay-Z whom built a illusion for his RAP CAREER about being a billion are when half of his "net worth" was based of his .2% stake in the Brooklyn Nets whom were worth a fuck ton of money but he recently got out of.

Dr Dre helped build beats from the ground up with Jimmy Iovine. Not sure his role in the company (never have read into it) but he was with it from the get go. I don't think it ever mattered because BEATS was always a branding venture, everybody whom knew audio and audio quality always knew the BEATS brand products were shitty but from a aesthetic and branding standpoint they were elite. Dre, he has had some blunders. His SCRATCH Magazine idea tanked to shit, and I believe he had a idea for a royalty free beat marketplace that didn't pan out either but like any savvy business guy some shit works and some stuff doesn't. I think its been around 10 years or so with the BEATS Corp and now he is seeing his pay day.

On the flip side of this this shows that APPLE INC is a shell now that Steve Jobs is gone. They are puling Facebook moves when you have zero innovative capital left and just go around buying shit for inflated prices.

Dre and Iovine are laughing to the bank. Jay-Z's balls have gotten a bit smaller and I am happy because dude was trolling with his elitism, while Dre was always in the background just making money like savvy business men do.

Another crazy thing is that HTC just sold off their share of Beats last year. They owned half the company and sold it off for about $400m.

Agreed. My first thought is that I couldn't see Apple doing this if Steve Jobs were still at the helm. They must be going through a crisis of innovation. They haven't come out with a riveting product since Job's death.

I've never worn a pair of Dre's headphones but according to audio review sources they are crap and you could get a pair of true audiophile quality headphones that will blow beats out of the water for half the price. It's all about branding and marketing these days. People will pay a premium just too look cool because there are so many dumb consumers.

But props to Dre for his hustle and becoming the world's first hiphop billionaire. He's come a long way. When that dude was on the streets of Compton, his life could've easily been snuffed with all the violence going on there. Would he have ever imagined he'd grow up to be America's 3rd black billionaire?

^^^ Love that song. If you grew up in L.A. in the early to mid-90s that was the anthem. Even if you weren't gansta. EVERYONE loved that shit. It brings back memories of me and my boys in high school cruising down Hollywood Blvd bumping that track.

I remember the treat of getting the CD single was getting the remix with extended snoop versus, Daz Dillinger and George Clinton singing the verse. Was sick. All that stuff was awesome.

I can't tell you how much we bumped "The Chronic" in college. I remember one of the girls dorms did this midnight tradition of serenading the guy's dorm on Valentine's day at midnight. Some dudes in my hall put their speakers out the window and started blasting "Bitches Ain't Shit".

Doing what he loved and became a billionaire doing it. People can say whatever they wish about this stuff happening, there's people here(even in this forum)who will tell you "Chances are you will never be the 1%" "You'll never get up there", don't listen to that noise, crabs in a bucket are noisy. My father came to the US broke, no American contacts to support him, he wasn't surrounded by millionaires, no golden spoon. Your life is in your hands if you live in the West, put up all the reasons why it isn't if you likes. Dude from a broken home, living in the projects and made it to the top of the top.

Dr. Dre is a legend. I don't even get the hate. A more interesting story is how the whole Beats thing came to be. Apparently it was started by the guys who developed Monster cable but then they screwed up in the licensing agreements and eventually lost it all or did not get compensated well for it. I read that story somewhere a while back, maybe Wired?
