I found both of these by walking the streets and having a local girl call rental numbers for prices. These would be pretty rock-bottom I think, but prices would start from there and go up. $500 a month might be more realistic for something decent and furnished these days. Manizales is probably 20% cheaper than Medellin across the board, and Barranquilla is just as expensive, I can't tell you about anywhere else.

Do you pay month-to-month or is this a 6/12 month contract? Do you have local sign as your fiadoro (sp)?

The little studio near Lleras was month-to-month. The apartment in Manila was a year-long contract and I did have to get a Colombian co-signer who owned land.

I didn't go out during on game nights which is why I guess I didn't see anything bad. Every Colombian I've met cautioned me about the games. One Monday evening though I visited there, many people were jogging on the track outside, also biking, and walking there dogs. There was some bulldog jumping competition. They had a tire on a rope hanging from a tree, trying to see who's dog could jump the highest to grab the tire.
