RE: Lost My Job - An Introspection
best of luck in the new endeavour man
Got to this thread a little late, dunno how I didn't spot it earlier but it's been an inspiration. I was wanting to post on it as I'm in a similar-ish position being at a cross-roads career wise now and have been thinking along the same lines. I also work in finance/accountancy, qualified CA former big 4 tho now working product control in a bank and fucking hating every minute. Trying to move but newly tightend visa/employment pass rules are cockblocking me badly from finding anything else here. Tho I have been networking well tho and something may still come up, but cannot face more than a couple more months tops of this shit so going to jack it in sept/october time regardless if I have anything else lined up. Although I'd love to stay longer in Singapore and this may mean the end of the adventure, this job I can actually feel is killing me and I'm utterly burned out, cannot go on.
Been thinking about my next steps career wise, how I have changed massively as a person since taking the red pill and how I look at the corporate world and the concept of 'employment' very differently now, as well as how differently I look at life itself. I indeed bought into the corporate blue pill bullshit initially, tho I genuinely enjoyed my job before the shit hit the fan around 2010. But after getting screwed over the first time I came to the harsh realisations that are perfectly summed up in your "the man and his cronies" piece.
Regardless if another role comes up or not I really do need to take some time off to recharge the batteries as the thought of going straight into something else just drains me. Been lucky in so far I am single (and intend to stay that way), came into a bit of inheritance money so can afford to travel for a few months round Asia without slumming it (not my style). I intend on meeting as many fellow RVF'ers round Asia as I can and maybe starting a blog on it all as well.
Anyway, hope you dont mind my self indulgent 3am rant after just getting home from another office ass fucking. Just wanted to say it has been comforting and very interesting to read about someone in a similar career going through a similar experience. Albeit a much more extreme situation what with losing your job and having the situation with the kids. Struck a chord of how similar your thoughts were to my own right now. But you also came up with a battle plan, executed it and came through it all guns blazing. Not to mention all the great support and excellent insights from fellow RVFer's commenting here to help you through the tough time. It's threads like these which make you realise what a great thing we all got going on here in our own small corner of the internet.
It's sure been an inspiration reading through on my phone while I have been sat late nights at the office.
Fair play
