From this picture I cannot tell if its a boy or a girl but that kid looks like a fat unruly entitled problem who probably knows that he/she has "rights". I wouldn't want such a thing, too.

Her face, fatness, short hair and crooked smile makes me think she (he?) did stupid entitled things there - not wanting to do what she's told, annoying her teachers and yelling at then for not getting her own way...

Of course, since it's a traditional catholic school that doesn't crumble under feminist threats easily, that bullshit does not work and they wanted to punish her. Telling her to look like a normal girl was probably the easiest and most effective message that she went way over the line - she may get attention for some time, but either she will get to other school or learn to behave if there aren't any schools that are close to her apartment or house. She'd probably already be in another school instead of trying to use the media to present themselves as the victim - this whole stunt seems like a desperate attempt to save face. If there IS another school there, it's probably very far away and not practical to them, the mother knew that, otherwise she wouldn't send her there in the first place.

They know they can afford to send the message like that, since there probably aren't a lot of schools in her town, and besides, they already have enough kids to sustain the school - they know punishing her the old-school way is a big no-no as she'd use it to shut the school down or change the rules to suit herself.

If they don't back down, she'll get the message very clearly - either submit or find another school; our school, our rules. If you don't like it, don't go - nobody is forcing you to come back.
Either way, they win, and she loses.
