I'm currently reading Heretics and Heroes by Thomas Cahill. The book broadly covers the Renaissance and Reformation. There are of course mentions of various popes, but none in much detail.

Despite not being Christian, I'm really interested about the history of the Papacy. It seems that there was such a wide array of popes that reigned in terms of policy and personality. Also, it seems like a lot of "interesting" things went on (e.g. lots of sex and living lavishly) under their watch.

This is a fairly specific subject, but I was curious if anyone had ever read, or knows of, books on this subject.
