Am planning to visit both cities in August.

Is that a good time of year to go or not? Will the cities be empty because of the Summer vacation??

Korea is the summer is hot and humid as hell...especially July and August.
I don't think Seoul will ever be empty - it's a gigantic city - always something going on.

I haven't been to Taipei in ages but there are some threads about it on the forum.

I can tell you that the people in Taipei are super friendly and helpful.
I felt like I was visiting a small town...not a city of 22 million people.

Koreans are not so open and friendly to foreigners in general.
Mainly because they are insecure about using English.

I've lived in Korea (but not Seoul) so if you have any questions, I'll try to help you out.

Its going to be very, very hot and humid. Expect to duck from building to building hiding in the shelter of AC during the day, otherwise if you walk outside for more than 20 minutes your shirt is drenched with sweat. It cools down a bit during the night, so its better.

In seoul, hongdae and itaewon will always be kicking.

In taipei, I've only been there when I was in high school, but night markets are always packed, and tons of cute girls there.
