I don't think we should turn this into a military-bashing exercise. Who really knows the circumstances behind his having become an Army doctor? There are plenty of good, practical reasons to join the military, as at least a few forumers here know first hand. Maybe he had one.

It isn't that he threw away a promising medical career to join the army, the state paid for his medical school education. In return, he works for the military as a doctor.

He still gets to practice medicine. You make it sound like he went into debt going to a top medical school and could have opened a private practice and made lots of money but instead he wanted to join the army. It just didn't happen.

Look at the bright side, his daughter grew up with zero supervision and zero male authority and became a porn star as a result.

We need to stop looking to parents when we seek to explain kids' behavior. Parents only have so much influence. The exception is cases where there is out-and-out physical abuse at a young age, which can reconfigure the brain.

We all know families where there are two average kids and one outlier who is a wild child. How to explain? They were all raised in the same house. Some of it simply comes down to genetics. Some people seek thrills. Some are born surfers. Others are born librarians. Some seek to do porn. More on this can be found at the JayMan Blog, where he gets into the science of nature vs. nurture.

All that said, there is a relationship between sexual abuse and women who later get into the sex industry. So I wonder what went on with Belle Knox.
