Finding USBs
I have found two in the last few weeks. Unless the person is present to give it back to I usually take it, wipe clean and use for work.

Went to wipe them tonight. Both contained tonnes of personal info and sensitive material that I can't believe they were just carrying around on a USB:

-Naked pics of girlfriends (All WNB)

-Bank info, statements, bills, credit card info, business accounts, cash flow

-Lots of intimate emails and letters. Some really beta oneitis emails that were painful to read - 6 years later and still can't move on.

-Obvious folder names for sensitive material: 'Sex help books' 'Therapy notes' 'Letters to Rachel'

I ended up deleting all of it but I was tempted to post some of it on the forum (leaving out his personal info). Thing is I can't believe that these guys were so clueless with all their private dealings. A USB isn't even password protected. If I wanted to steal their identity or blackmail them it would have been too easy.

It was also kind of depressing to think that both snapshots of some random persons life were so bleak. Both had really bad relationship problems, oneitis issues and lots of financial trouble. Maybe I'll email them some game links etc. off a disposable email address.

Has anyone else had a similar experience.

This would make a great movie or short story.

I've found someones USB before. It was in my old place. The guy living there left it and it was all his plans for starting a rock climbing online magazine, lists of stuff, pretty cool. You always think you're the only one who sits down and writes shit out, but its interesting to see others do the same. I remember going to a chicks place and she had all these motivational phrases and rules. Interesting look into a persons life.

RE: Finding USBs
Yeah, I never put anything sensitive on a USB stick. LogMeIn or TeamViewer remote access to your home computer is the way to go.

Plus many banks and financial places make you go through a crazy ass setup process to check your account from another computer so it's easier doing it all in one place.

If you use Windows 7, BitLocker To Go can encrypt those for you. Loaded on the stick is a Windows XP app for read only access on older computers.

Not gonna lie, I'm curious how bad the WNB chick pics are.

RE: Finding USBs
Few years ago, barely beginning of winter (first snow just happened night before) some election people came around to my rents place (I was still in HS). That spring I noticed a little USB stick in the snow melt. Cap was still on, slight bit of rust had gotten in, but when I stuck it in comp it still worked fine.

Had a bunch of information on people. Age, where they lived, spouses, where they worked...and SIN (social insurance numbers) numbers, health care card information. Other sensitive crap like that. And there were hundreds of peoples information on it. A scammer's wet dream. Too bad my dad was looking at the stick with me and destroyed it. I probably could have sold the information for 50-200 bucks a person. Great to know all our personal information is really being well looked after.

RE: Finding USBs
I found one in the airport last year. "E. Snowden" was written on the side but couldn't get it to work. Not good at tracking down stuff, so I sent it to Emech.
