@skotch Makes sense about the age thing.

I was watching that Youtube channel I linked to earlier about these two kinds of face/language, one for public, one for friends. I forgot their names, but everyone know them in Japan. One thing that struck me was that speaking 'informally' according to those asked basically meant being brutally honest, while the public speaking was being extremely polite. Nothing in between. Then it struck me, and I this is probably going to offend some, it seems like this extreme focus on formal-informal speak basically seems slightly sociall retarded, borderline autistic (not medically, but you get the point)? In the West we teach kids to do exactly the opposite, to be truthful, but not hurtful, and this is what most people learn through childhood and teenage years, to find that balance between yourself and others and to be able to accept being embarassed by something someone else said.

What that means is that as adults, most Westerners understand the boundaries of others and understand how to navigate situations where a mixture of honesty and white lies are needed. On the other hand, Japanese seem to have skipped this learning phase entirely and never learned how to balance the two. Instead they need rigid rules, it's either extreme politeness (dishonest in Western terms) or extreme honesty (childish, might be insulting).

That actually helped me understand it. I used to think Japanese social codes were very advanced and difficult, now they seem rather simple, only difficult to figure out exactly what to do when, but once you know, there is no ambivalance, you are never in doubt. In Western socializing it's a much more intuitive social dynamic.

Bang on about the age thing in Japan. Those J-teens get much harder after you pass 25, especially as gaijin tend to look older than the babyfaced Japanese guys.

All the more reason to lift, take care of your diet and stay "29 years-old" indefinitely.

If you are superior in rank to someone else and within the same in-group (such as a company or school etc.) then you are allowed to be brutally honest. Japanese managers can be more direct than western ones in certain situations. That came as a surprise to me too when I got my first job there.

When it comes to chicks there is, of course, no need to worry about keigo.

HOWEVER if you speak the lingo fairly well, then you can show some class and social awareness by being polite in the initial interaction and over texts (teineigo is sufficient). Then switching to "casual" Japanese as you kanpai them on your first date gives them a feeling of intimacy.

Try it out sometime. It's not strictly necessary but can do wonders for the right type of girl who might otherwise be on the fence about dating gaijin. And never let them order from the menu either.

Going to Japan in a few months for 3 weeks. Wondering what are good places to game and set up base? I'm Asian but not Japanese. Not usually a big fan of clubs as I don't drink alcohol but keen to try it out as hear unlike the west the gender ratios are better.

I'll be landing and leaving from Osaka but common sense seems to tell me that Tokyo is where the action is. However maybe a less densely populated city would work to my advantage where girls are more approachable during the day.

Also wondering if setting up near a university is good idea or better near where the nightlife is (e.g. shinjuku)?

I don't know where you get that notion, Osaka is the best city in Japan. If you do spend time there you'll wanna check out Namba, Amemura and Umeda. There are plenty of other spots however, so explore as you wish. I've yet to visit, but I hear tobitashinchi is an interesting place to check out

Melon House is 7-10 min walk from the Osaka nightlife and caters to foreigners on month to month. Huge drawback it has one shower on the roof. I joined the pool a block away but it closes at 8pm and all day Monday. It's an extra ¥5000/month.

The wifi sucks balls and I hate waiting morning and night to shower. I don't think I'd stay here again.

Live somewhere cheaper and pay for the cab/metro. When I lived two stops away on Midosuji line I got laid more. Girls had no problem meeting me right at my exit and station. It actually made it easier because I could sit home working and only walk to the station once they arrived. Then 1 min walk to my apt from exit. No time for her ASD to get spooked.

Melon house is 15 min to Shinsaibashi. Maybe 8 to Nippombashi or Nagahorobashi.

Thanks for the tips. I'll be in Osaka 1 week tops as my trip to Japan is only 2.5 weeks. Are there any good places around thr action within a $100 per night budget? I hear Ryukans are good, but not sure if they allow girls to stay over.

My ideal location will have access to younger girls from university or young single professionals.

School is back in session but the schools are far from the nightlife.
The only two areas for nightlife are really Umeda and Namba (which is really shinsaibashi).
Try Airbnb. If you want to go out to clubs it's only Namba/Amemura.
The only club in Umeda is OWL and it'll be empty unless it's weekend.
Just go to the WhyNot international parties and bang some gaijin hunters. If you're staying in namba you can take them for a drink before party ends at 10pm. Then to your place. Be aware the last train is around midnight so that's a big cockblock. If it's a weeknight she may even want to be home earlier like an 11pm train. If you go to the all you can drink parties the girls won't even need a comfort bounce. It's so easy it's almost foolproof. Just don't wear shorts and sneakers like a loser English teacher. Those guys give gaijin a bad rep.

Thanks for the explanation. I'll try Airbnb. I like being situated near some bars or in general "cool sh*t" that i can show the girl around. As i said not big in clubbing (but dont mind it if its actually easy to talk to some girls). While i am a foreigner im dont think the Gaijin hunters will be going for foreign Asian guys like myself.

My general strategy is 1) try to setup date through online websites like CS or tinder, or day approach 2) invite them to my area for drinks or walk around, 3) take them up to my place.

I like low intensity approaches. However maybe this doesn't work in Japan especially with my time constraints. Reckon its good to game in or around universities? Or are Japanese girls in uni conservative about sex and all about studying

Idk depends on your age. Are you really going to spend your limited days running daygame up at the universities?? Unless you speak Japanese anD have blond hair and blue eyes I can't imagine them giving two shits about a tourist when they have school and work. They're busy little bees lol. They tend to want to schedule dates a week or more in advance.

The quality you can pull on tinder in Japan is about the same or less than at the parties. Just do yourself a solid and go to the parties. Try HUB the intl bar. The girls in their are never above an 8 though. I've pulled from their but it can take a few hours and you'll have to ditch her friend or have a wing.

Since u have limited time I suggest you just pick the low hanging fruit. It tastes the same. I would not recommend a ryokan. I stayed in one in Hakone and it was pretty traditional and you had to walk past the front desk. I was the only foreigner too. Plus toilets/showers are often public.

I stayed in one in Kyoto that was more hotel room style with my own toilet but the old woman who ran it always greeted my gf and I. And at night you had to knock and announce yourself if she locked up.

You can def find stuff for under $100/night on airbnb. I found one for $20/night with my own room but she had a minimum stay of like two weeks or more. I noticed it was rented out almost all year on its calendar. When I came in summer there was a lot more vacancy. Plus girls were going crazy off from school. And hordes of young Korean tourists. I hit dotonbori and pulled almost every night like butter. So much to choose from.

I noticed nightlife died the last week of August and weather also turned shitty. It's been raining almost everyday. September is an unofficial rainy season in Japan. It was like this last sept in Tokyo too. Weekends are still decent if it's not raining but nothing like summer.

Yea, I lived in Japan for 2 years and have spent the past four months in Argentina. I gotta say, the difference in sexuality between Latinas and Japanese chicks is night and day. I didn't realize it much while I was there, but most Japanese girls aren't really comfortable with their bodies and a lot have strange hangups about sex. When a poster says that Japanese girls are fun to bang and "good in bed", it makes me feel quite suspicious as to his experience.

Also. Though I haven't gone out yet (basing my opinion on daytime walking around, sightseeing, etc), here is my thoughts on Japanese vs. Korean girls

Korean girls generally a bit taller/leggier than Japanese girls.. Japanese girls seem a bit more cute/feminine/pretty. Both guys and girls I would say are slightly shorter than their Korean counterparts (who are more or less Western height levels). Like the girls are more petite/cute/etc where Korea has a decent amount of tallish/tall "hot bitch" types. Jap girls are also probably prettier especially when you consider that plastic surgery isn't really a thing (where majority of young Korean girls get it). They/Japanese people in general seem a bit more calm/peaceful whereas Koreans have a short fuse. The first full day to me was almost eery - the city seemed a bit "sleepy." (Though my opinion has slightly changed since then due to walking around Shibuya at night ~8-9pm). But again, this is all during the day. Who knows what happens at the club/when people start drinking

But regardless, I would engage in sexual relations with the majority of both Korean/Japanese girls

I'd say it's rather the equivalent of "negro". Certainly offensive but not the N word. "Chosen" is simply the old Japanese word for Korea with no particular stigma attached although it's been hijacked by the far right in recent years. Of course it's all about the context, just like how "gaijin" can be racist or friendly depending on how it is used.

Anyway hope you enjoy your trip. Daygame in Shibuya/Harajuku is where it's at. Keep us updated!
