UK libel law is actually stricter--i.e. more favorable to the person libeled--than American. I am no expert, but, while England has a tradition of free speech, it does not actually have a First Amendment. From Wikipedia:

A defamatory statement is presumed to be false, unless the defendant can prove its truth....A private individual must only prove negligence (not exercising due care) to collect compensatory damages....English defamation law puts the burden of proving the truth of allegedly defamatory statements on the defendant, rather than the plaintiff....

In other words, in the UK Nelson would have to prove that the book is a rape guide, rather than Venturi having to prove it isn't. I'd love to see a lawsuit, or at least a strong legal letter that forced Nelson/Huffpo to issue a retraction.

p.s. Weird thing about all of this is I still haven't seen any discussion of the actual content of the book: is it or is it not a rape guide?

That is correct. He should definitely look into suing the Huffington Post for starters. They made a gross error of judgement in publishing an article that had nothing to back up its claims. I hope that a lawyer from this site steps up to help out or introduce someone. As a community we need to support each other.

Also, those tweets calling Vinturi a "rapist" would be 100% libelous in the UK. You could take all of those users to court and sue for damages.

A couple of years back, a famous UK politician was falsely linked to a sex abuse scandal in the media. Social media keyboard jockeys started to spread the allegations as if they had already been proved to be true.

Someone tweeted the following:

They claim I violated their terms of service. I've asked for clarification on what, exactly, is in violation.

Vincent, you probably can't win with these particular censorious white-knights and their self-congratulatory "donations".

However, I think it wouldn't hurt if you issued a general disclaimer to go with your book. Something along the lines of:
