This is kind of one of those stories that should serve as a warning not to mess with random people when you go out. This dude is 155 pounds and took out 4 guys, 2 of whom were armed. Regardless, pretty crazy story.

I am reading in some of the articles about this that he could face charges for the one death.
I don't understand why that is even a possibility.

He probably said something against feminism during the battle, the two who got away passed his comments onto the police, and the elected female sheriff heard about the remarks.

Sucks that people feel like the have to break in to other people's houses.

I don think there is any other way it could have gone down. They would have probably killed him once the fight started.

This has got to be one of the best examples of self defense as a reason for someone getting killed.

Sounds a little strange that four guys are breaking into a home together.

^^This was gang related, as I understand it. They had called him and told him they were coming over.

I suspect Torrez will have a pretty strong case for self-defense. Hopefully the prosecutor doesn't have ambitions for higher office (fat chance).

He did all that and his record is 1-5? I'd hate to see what happens when you mess with the 6-0 guy.

I read that he may face charges because the dead guy was found away from the home, so maybe be was trying to flee and Torrez followed him and killed him. Not sure if that's accurate or not though, skimmed it quickly.

Most thugs aren't used to serious counter attacks from their targets because in 95% of cases they use body language and threats to get what they want. KO one of them with a punch and the others will find themselves a mix of shock and confusion, some will probably start running if you go at them next. It's risky, but it works if they are unarmed.

Arizona self defense laws are in his favor.

Someone else more qualified can chime in but I'm pretty sure their law allows not only defense but allows him to actually take then down by any means necessary.

I can't imagine that terror of a home invasion. I wouldn't feel safe anymore.

There is a movie based on real life incident about a guy who got jailed for doing just that, I can't remember the name right now but he's a married father of one boy and has a hot Latina wife.

Yeah, if he chased him down and killed him, Torrez could be in deep trouble.

Self-defense laws are pretty limited. And in the more anti-self defense states, you have a duty to retreat (even inside your own home) from an attacker before you can defend yourself with lethal force. Ridiculous, but that's what happens when the people abdicate responsibility for themselves and give it to the state.

This happened in New Mexico, not Arizona. As I said above, I would hope the prosecutor would decline to prosecute, even if there were legal grounds to do so.

In most of the states you don't have to retreat. It would be easier if he killed them all with a gun in his trailer - clear case of self defense especially if they knocked down his door! I don't see any controversy here at all! Las Cruses is a place with no news happening ever., that must be the real reason this is in the news. He will not even be detained for this.

Any good lawyer could get him off the hook.

Problem is, living in a trailer and with a 5-1 record, I dont think he has enough money or fame to get a decent lawyer to take his case.

As much as I hope that this guy DOES NOT get charged with anything, it is the duty of local law enforcement to at least look into the circumstances of the incident, ask questions, and possibly detail people if necessary. If they didn't go through some of the proper investigative procedure, you'd probably have a lot more questionable "incidents" taking place.

Just as likely the guy got stabbed inside, ran away, then started bleeding out and dropped somewhere outside the house.

Anyway, I first saw this story on BloodyElbow, and there were a handful of guys making comments like, "It's really a tragedy this man died and wasn't able to turn his life around."



Unbelievable fucking chodes. Who says that with a straight face about a guy who threatens to murder a man's innocent family and invades their home with a knife?
