What do you make of this?

Why should they tip more than a dollar? Do they have some kind of obligation to give their money to strangers simply because they have it? They're already doing so through taxes.

Two of the most famous rich people in America tipping a dollar per drink on Xmas is just cheap. With a minuscule fraction of their wealth, even I am a little more generous on the holidays.

Just saying that these are people that are looked up to the world over, and, not that they have to be angels all the time, but they come off as bigger assholes than I already thought they were.

This isn't a call for socialism, but a return to a culture that has some semblance of class.

Maybe the real tip was the privilege of serving them. How lucky the bartender was!

In a way they are fucking cheap compared to their wealth and persona, but looking at the rest of the world the American/Canadian tipping culture is a bit ridiculous. There must be something in the North American mindset where we feel more privileged/guilty than someone having to serve us, or think everywhere else is 2nd/3rd world when they live a similar quality of life with a lower cost of living.

I don't get why I should tip a bartender, apart from the veiled threat of them not making my drink "normal" strong or spitting in it. Why should I tip them anything?

Phoenix they tip in other places but it's included in the check.

Agreed, I only tip out of guilt and even then it takes a bit.

Sorry, but unless the bar tender is exemplary then the tip is mostly a dollar or two. No need to go above and beyond the call of duty. Just because someone is worth a couple hundred mil doesn't require them to have to tip twenties for everything they do. There is nothing I can't stand more than tip entitlement.

Side note too without derailing the thread too much. I also don't see the value of getting a place "unlocked". I don't drink that much so my drink bill is mad low already. The perk of getting "free" drinks at a place isn't much of a goal of mine.

I prefer getting chicks to buy me drinks.

I prefer the tipping culture of North America because it usually leads to better service, I almost went insane last night in Colombia because of shitty wait staff.

The tip is based on the service provided, not on the net worth of the tipper.

$1 per drink is polite and appropriate. I guess the bartender just wanted some free money. A bit unprofessional to be talking about your clients' tips IMO, but whatever.

I tip more when the bill is less. I tip Jimmy John drivers $3 or $4 even though my bill is only $8 bucks usually. Now if I'm ordering a pizza the driver is lucky to get $2 because the bill is around $20.

I could make a list a mile long of cheap celebs that I've dealt with in nightlife.

One cat who stands out as always being generous though and a cool dude to boot, is Vince Vaughn. A very real generous cat.
