This is why I was never sold on the Pax "controversy" being anything more than a corporate guy exercising poor judgement. All sorts of people get sacked or punished by their employers over poor social media etiquette. I see it all the time.

Latest casualty was PR exec Justine Sacco of IAC - a major internet company that owns websites like OKCupid, Match.com, College Humor, Daily Beast, etc.

This was the tweet that did it.



Unlike Pax, this chick doesn't have an extensive history of offensive tweets. So this would be more surprising to me.

While she was in-flight from London to Cape Town, South Africa, the tweet became a trending topic.

With that "Duck Dynasty" guy in the news for his views, you would think being in PR, she'd know better. Even if there's some truth to what you're saying/writing, why go into it? And especially trying to be funny about something like that? I get all of the "free speech is dead" laments, but at the same time, people need to know when to shut the fuck up. Everyone doesn't need to know what you think and feel about everything. Keep it to yourself. Especially over issues that don't affect you, like homosexual sex. If you aren't gay, and dudes aren't trying to pound YOUR colon, why go on and on about it? Bottom line...speech has never been free from consequences. EVER. It goes both ways - you're free to say whatever you want, whenever you want, but others are free to criticize YOU for it. If you badmouth your boss or the company publicly, he can fire you for that, and your rights haven't been violated. Once you go public, you open yourself up for reprisals. Folks can be hateful and vicious when coming after you. I don't advocate threats and the like, but just the same, if you make it a point to attack someone/something, you can't act like a victim when invective comes your way. Instead of doing her job, which is making clients look good or dealing with fallout from a client fucking up, she made herself the story and got popped.

Apparently, the racist part is that a white person is bragging about her white privilege because white people are less likely to contract AIDs - she is gloating racially? Or something. Reminds me of being at an art gallery where all the art is New Age trash, but nobody says anything because if you speak against the herd you will likely be seen as poorly cultured, unable to comprehend the higher level meanings or simply jealous.

This incident signifies nothing. This woman has no history of anti-social commentary and ONE instance of poor judgment - on social media, no less. Should have been obvious to her, but...

People intensely lashing out against her are what they hate - rageful bigots casting about to find individuals to settle up the deficient moral accounts of "society," "men" or "white people." It can never be slaked because it originates from the complete inability of one to recognize their own anti-social and hateful thoughts and actions. If you don't wither in the face of the onslaught, you will be fine. These sorts of people are highly emotive and reactive. If you apologize/make amends too much, they will view you with deep suspicion.

Their tools of censorship, social ostracism and intense & withering judgment do nothing to help the problems they target or invent. It is one massive charade that exists so they never have to come to grips to the rage within. Admitting their issues means confronting their one true fear - they absolutely fear themselves.

No lie it's up there like 28% followed by a whole lot of other African countries. even the ones with "good" rates of HIV are at like 5% or 1 in 20. Ok let's take the race context out of this & put it this way. Let's say if I tweeted something about going to Brazil, visiting some favelas in Rio, and then bragged about going back to my first world conditions as those poor bastards have to keep living in their meager surroundings followed by a "hah," while I'm a semi well-known person broadcasting this message over social media.

The whole point is that she doesn't believe that she's a candidate for HIV. It's the same hysterical screeching every time someone points out that the AIDS epidemic doesn't really exist among white heterosexual people who don't use needles.

I can imagine blundering a joke similarily, attempting to make fun of the people who speak of Africa's problems as if they're caused by the place itself and have nothing to do with the people who live there, and having it come out hostile. We all know that if you transplanted a bunch of white people (or Asians) in Africa they wouldn't magically develop the same dysfunctions like 30 % HIV rates but it's taboo in any way to even hint that you believe so.

She broke that taboo and that's the reason why she's getting so much hate.
