Back in the day, had not heard of the term 'muffin top' as most people use it, and invented it as a term of endearment, as a variation of 'muffin'.
Then was dating this girl for a few months...

She: "You know you don't have to call me muffin top all the time."
Barry: "Huh? Why not, you don't like it?"
She: "No, it is the fat that hangs out over the top of your pants!" (She did have a layer there)
Barry: "What? No...it is the best part of the muffin."

So here I was calling her fat, the whole time thinking it was a compliment. And it took several months for her to mention it. There is a game lesson in there somewhere.
