Need info on Bad Gastein, Austria
Looking for my ski trip this winter, I decided to go there as there's still some rooms left in the hostel, plus it's much cheaper than where I wanted to go (Val THorens or Val d'isere).

Need more information about this spot, looks very good in term of snow, huge (250 km ?). Doesn't look very steep but fun enough for me to enjoy. The village look awesome Smile

Someone mentionned it's pretty popular with Swedes, can it be confirmed, i'm going for new Year for 10 days...

Other than that what is there to know about this place? I'm a good skier (I've been to Whistler, Les 2 Alpes, Zermatt, Chamonix, Vail...) plus I regularly ski in Tremblant and Massif in Quebec... will I be disappointed by the level? It seem beautiful also after the few pictures I saw.

The other area I was considering was Gridenwald in Switzerland, what do you guys thinkis the better option for New Years?

I gave you the heads up about Bad Gastein. Lots of Swedes, awesome location (I have lots of friends in Salzburg), and I just like Austrians waaaaay more than Swiss. Especially at new years, Austria is a hard place to beat.

However, Austrians skiers hate the place. Well, the ones I ski with anyway.

Maybe someone else can chime in. I doubt it though.

Do you know why they don't like it?

I'm guessing it has to do with the quality of the runs and lifts to price ratio. There are hardly any black runs and the number of lifts means it will get crowded on clear days up on peak there. But it may suit you well. Agree with Laner about Austrians.

But is it ok for a good skier? Similar to Les Deux Alpes ? Is there a lot of areas to do off-piste if there's not that many blacks and does it get a lot of snow? Can someone make a comparison to some of the resorts I skiied (I can add 7 Lauz and Alpes d'Huez too)

And what about the après-ski there?
