I currently have Netflix the dvd service not the streaming. So it is like 13 bucks or so after taxes.

But I am looking into my monthly bleed, just little charges that don't mean much but do add up. I just spoke to the cable company and dropped a few coins off the monthly bill.

Netflix streaming is 7.99 and amazon prime breaks down to around 6.50 or so a year. And prime gives you the bonus of 2 day shipping without trying to find filler goods.

I am leaning toward moving to prime - but not sure on the viewing selection. Seems like Amazon will charge extras.

Anyone tried both or has both now? Do you get access to recent popular movies on Amazon? That would be one thing that would bug me. I do want to know that I can see movies that a few months out of the theater.

Prime is great for the free two day shipping. 80% of everything outside of groceries that I purchase now comes from amazon, because it is always close to the cheapest shit.

Why not just spend the $4 a month on a vpn and torrent the TV and movies you want with no risk. You pay for internet already, the selection is unlimited and it is HD quality. I guess it is technically stealing, but it is a moral grey area as far as I am concerned.

I find Netflix much easier to navigate and their selection is improving, I have access to both by the way.

Thanks for the thoughts. Ya, just can't figure out how badly I need Netflix anymore. I mainly play movies while working and I don't totally pay attention since I am working lol.

I got a free one month trial to Amazon Prime. Might be worth seeing if you can get that as well.

I've got access to both. Prime's video selection is fairly close to Netflix. Most of the new movies being released on Netflix are also on Prime, plus the addition of some tv shows which are not available on Netflix, and of course, free shipping. Personally, I have both. Netflix is better designed, and the stream quality seems a bit higher.

Prime's is really more of a supplement to the free shipping and free kindle rental than it is a fully fledged service, so keep that in mind. You could also try Redbox streaming option. Four FREE dvd rentals per month and unlimited streaming, which is probably on par with Prime, but below Netflix and Hulu plus.

I use XBMC with the 1channel add-on. Every tv show and movie is free and it's always up to date. Much better than all that garbage.

Any of you have a kindle fire to go with your amazon prime? It seems you get a lot of special offers - some are actually pretty decent. I was thinking of maybe grabbing a kindle.

I don't have a kindle fire, but I have heard its not very good.

You can get the Amazon Video app for iOS or Android, along with Netflix.

The only major negative I've found is no Amazon Video on the Apple TV.

The latest Kindle Fire HDX is very nice technically.

Where its real value is depends if you are heavily invested in Amazon (eg. buy all your ebooks from them, have Amazon Prime, use Amazon MP3, etc).

If you do, its definitely an excellent tablet.

I have both and I use both. I don't really use any other streaming services or video apps i.e. Hulu.

I am not much of a TV watcher. I do on occasion watch a series I find interesting if its on Netflix. If it is a particularly good series, I will pay for whatever the last season is because usually the last season hasn't been released yet on Netflix, but it is available on Amazon.

Also, there is the added benefit of Amazon Prime. Free two-day shipping on nearly every thing. Can't be beat. Also, I have a Kindle Fire HDX and being a prime member gives you discounts on lots of e-books.
