A question for some of the guys who have been in this for a while. There is a shitty movie from some time ago called "Good Luck Chuck" starring Dane Cook. It's a typical SWPL, run-of-the-mill romcom with a semi-interesting premise. The main character, Chuck (played by Dane Cook) is "cursed" in that after he sleeps with a girl, she marries the next man she dates. Jessica Alba is the starring girl, and of course, she is the curse-breaker. The movie ends EXACTLY as you think it would.

But, I bring this up because I think I'm in a little phase like this. I'm at about a 50% rate for this stuff in the last 2 years. A few examples:

Last major LTR - 2 months after we broke up, she was engaged. 4 months, married. 6 months, pregnant.

Brief fling (just ended 3 weeks ago) - now officially engaged.

One night stand - got back together with her baby daddy, now engaged and just had her second kid with the guy.

Brief fling - married with a kid

BJ in a parking lot - engaged

Another brief fling - married and moved to Florida


I believe there are others, but I don't keep in touch with all of them or have them on facebook. This happen to any of the experienced guys out there? Seems like an interesting pattern.

I've had this happen multiple times.

I believe it has something to do with the girl wanting 'one last good time' before tying the knot with a 'safe' guy.

After being with me they crave something permanent that I won't give them.

Guys getting engaged after a few weeks in insane.

Not that getting engaged isn't insane in the first place, but you follow me.

Yeah that last one was weird, she got engaged to one of her orbiters after 3 weeks. Made me re-evaluate these situations and thinking about it, I got a nice little laugh.

Happened to me a few times as well and Hotwheels nailed it. In some way they come back to sneakily shit test you with a permanent relationship to see if you will take the bait, but you're smarter than that, the chick picks up on it. It's win win in every situation for me. I get tail, she makes bail, marries beta male that provides stability.

Happened a few times to me. They usually "feeeel used" after me so they find a beta schmuck to marry them or commit to the point of engagement. I don't care, they seem happy and I am happy for them, they were fun.

happens often, just wait until you're at year 4-7 down the road from this happening and you start to get 'hey how's it going?' texts or facebook messages from these girls now that they are married.

Women, so fickle.

Guys, how does it work in America, does a couple that is engaged means that they are actually going to be married in a relative short period of time (like a few months to 2 years) or does it only means that they are in an exclusive LTR and they don't see other people?

Very very common. It's also pretty common for women to cheat right before they get engaged or married (usually with an ex, but sometimes with a random).

I offer a different explanation : Good looking women in the US ( 7 and up) are getting snatched fast. The vast majority of them are always in a relationships leading to marriage ( engaged) or in between relationships. Just because you caught one in-between relationships doesn't mean you are the Good Luck Chuck! I know I am not and I can tell most of my ons or flings got married or got a serious bf within one year.
