I'm a pretty avid backpacker/hiker, through the winter, summer, etc...... And in general that's what I talk about in my daily life, other than general chit chat on movies, games, random whatever......... But I have been noticing a lot lately that people who say they are "Into working out alot" or "The great outdoors", any other hobby that seems cool, they never seem to do it. I have been seeing it alot.

The question mostly comes around the theme of, are you the man you say you are?

It's also been proven that talking about doing something decreases the chance you'll actually do it, because in your mind talking about something in and of itself feels like a task being accomplished (that's the general gist of it, I don't have the fine details available at the moment.)

I used to always talk about my ideas and plans and then never, ever do them.

Now I STFU.

That way, I have to actually do them if I want people to know how "brilliant" I am.

People often think that an "idea" is the greatest thing on earth. While having great ideas is the foundation of anything, it's the boring, grinding, daily slog to bring these ideas into reality that actually sets dreamers apart from achievers. Having a great idea is so tied up with a persons ego and sense of self-importance that many folk seem content just to occasionally "have an idea" and tell everyone about it, satisfying their ego that they are the greatest thing since sliced bread and then... doing nothing.

I would really like to see that data, or what book it was in. Sounds like actual experiences of my own actions.

And not to derail the thread, but I know some chicks who are "into working out a lot" that are fat. Two reasons: First, and perhaps most obvious, is their diet is shit. You can't go work out then go to Olive Garden's all you can eat soup, salad, and breadsticks afterwards. Second, working out is all about intensity. We've all known pudgy girls who "run" marathons. Then there are the Kenyans. They look different. Why? Because the girls are merely trying to SURVIVE the run whereas the Kenyans are trying to PERFORM (i.e. intensity). Just about any fitness program is good so long as it's done with intensity. The girls I'm talking about aren't working out with intensity. When the going get's tough, they take a break and check their mileage on their iPhone.

I'm sure you can google and find something. The effect was similar to people who get a gym membership and then never work out. Or people who buy the book then never read it. Even making "to-do" lists has this effect on people (disclaimer: to-do lists are great for organizing, just make sure you actually "do").

I try to be. If I ever start talking and not back it up, I feel like I've failed myself and sometimes others, which depresses me. So I try to let my game do the talking as much as possible.

Well, I do tear myself apart in the gym lately. I do work hard and I do have ambitions and plans. I don't lie about that to people.

But when some girl ask me if I'm doing anything right now (If I'm free to go out) I always make sure that I sound busy but I'll find some time for her in an hour or day, or week. That depends on her bangability and what she's inviting me for. If she is a 6 and wants to be seen with me in the most crowded street pretending to be my girlfriend, I'll refuse. If the same 6 invites me in some nearby bar for few casual drinks that I know will escalate into going to mine or her place for sex, I'll meet with her in couple of hours and make sure I get the bang as quick as possible.
