Buying an apartment in Medellin ?
i've been to mde 5 times, and really love the city. my spanish is improving daily, and i'm getting ready to make the jump. My plan is to live there 4-6 months out of the year, and possibly rent it out to wealthy gringos 6 months of the year.

My goal is to buy a big studio or 1 bedroom in a nice area of town (preferably poblado). I don't plan on having any kids or playing house anytime soon, so I don't need anything dramatic.

I am on a real estate emailing list, and i'm seeing prices from $100,000 to $325,000 USD. I was told foreigners have to pay 100% and in cash, no financing.

This got me to thinking- i'm willing to bet that the 100k for the two bedroom i saw would really go for $70,000 usd, not 100-150k like they were quoting. that would be much more realistic, and provide an excellent investment opportunity. I also know that these "services" advertise gringo pricing, and that locals must pay far less.

SO, that said, does anyone here own an apartment in Medellin, and how much did you pay? Is it true foreigners have to pay 100% and in cash? What are the real prices?

Thanks in advance

You guys aren't much help. Angry

Yes, it is that good. It would also make a great 'base of operations' for more travel in SA...

love the weather, the people, the parties, the debauchery, the food, ....and of course, the big booties

Let's not hijack his thread by going off topic.

But first, how are you getting a permanent visa?

I'm not, as of yet. I didn't know you needed one to buy property...

probably do DAS extensions and visa runs every 60 days.
