For a long time, I was a definite "pro gay marriage" advocate. I thought, "Why shouldn't they be allowed to get married?" yay equality!

Quite recently, I learned that a significant number of gay marriages are open relationships. The gay marriage everyone sees on "Modern Family" is actually a rare thing.

Now while I am not surprised by this, my opinion on the whole thing has changed. I don't think people should get married if they don't plan on staying monogamous. Consequently, I don't think I would be able to handle marriage.

I don't care if your straight or gay, but seriously when there aren't any real vows left in the world anymore at least hold onto this last one "Till Death do us Part".

Marriage shouldn't be determined by government and the entire system should be swapped out. Call it something different for the tax books, but let the churches decide who should be married and who shouldn't.

For some reason, this really irks me. The lack of any firm vows in our world disturb me.

I am against heterosexual marriages(at least if you are a man) and am indifferent about gay marriage.

No fault divorce, family law and domestic violence laws are probably the biggest problems with hetreosexual marriage. You noted the inherent problem with homosexual marriage. This will most likely be used to destroy traditional marriage further by making it even easier to terminate a relationship. Or no consequences of cheating.

This is basically how I think about it. People can do whatever they want as long as it only affects themselves. Bringing children into the equation raises a big problem. If I was raised by two males or two females I would only be able to identify with the values of one gender and not have a rounded view of both.

The funny thing is - the hideous chick asks the question and doesn't like the answer and then of course the rational response is to FLIP THE FUCK OUT.

what she(the one giving the rant) isn't considering is that when 2 lesbians get married, one of them is probably going to be more dominant in the relationship and fall into the male roles(fixing shit around the house, taking out the garbage and whatnot)

I live in a big blue city on the coast and coincidentally most of my "male" friends in the work force are gay and married. So it probably is more of an anecdotal bias but my perception is my reality.

Got nothing against them, but they hit on me hard to the point of being shameless.

The reason the gay marriage lobby has been successful is because they have convinced people that gay marriages are the same as a monogamous heterosexual marriage with the white picket fence house - kind of like a modern 21st century sitcom family.

That's the image for gay marriage that has been successfully sold to mainstream America. As much as marriage has gone down the shitters in recent times I think that most Americans still believe in the traditional story of boy meets girl, they fall in love, get married, shit out a couple of kids and then live happily ever after. People still believe in "true wuv" and the gay lobby has co-opted that narrative. If you're against gay marriage then one of first reactions is "oh are you against love then?"

Marriage is just a long term relationship with legal ramifications. It hasn't been the way you think of it for a long time. That is why being married 2 or 3 times isn't a big deal now.

I'm all for gay marriage if it would shut them up. Unfortunately, nothing will.

Aren't people who rail against "heteronormativity" basically advocating the extinction of the human species? It's ridiculous to believe that heterosexuality shouldn't be the norm or promoted... it's necessary to our species survival that we reproduce.

My take on gay marriage is that is people admitting that the government should be allowed to define what constitutes marriage and who's allowed to get married.

If people told government to get out of their relationships and mind its own goddamn business - no one would have ever needed pass gay marriage law. And for what? A legal piece of paper that gives people "permission" to do what they've been doing anyways?

I'm afraid it's not true that "a lot of heterosexual marriages" are "open," at least on the same scale as gay relationships. Monogamy is practically nonexistent among gay men over any extended period of time.

Dan Savage and his "husband" have admitted to having at least nine "extramarital" affairs over their very short "marriage." [S]omething of the gay relationship's necessary honesty, its flexibility, and its equality could undoubtedly help strengthen and inform many heterosexual bonds").

There is no credible evidence that straight couples, married or not, have "open" relationships at this rate.

What is truly strange is that women are the biggest supports of gay marriage. This is odd, because gay marriage is likely to erode the norm in favor of monogamy that women insist on in their relationships with men.

The reason that marriage is being pushed for teh gey is to allow the Alpha Dog 1% to have as many hot nubile wives as they want. Once Bob and Steven can get married in all 50 states there will be no logical reason to keep the Warren Buffets of this world from having their own harem of 19-year-old's. And as to those who think this will never happen as "marriage is a bad deal", don't worry, the zillionares will find a way to make marriage laws favor themselves.

I can't be bothered thinking too deeply about these issues. So I tend to cut to the chase.

If you accept gays are 'equal' to straight people - you should give them the exact same rights.

I might be wrong on this - but that seems to me a simple position to settle on. And I can't be bothered thinking much more than that since it is an issue I don't care about that much.

I'm saying this without any hatred, but, from my observations over the years, even adult gay men function pretty much like teenage girls:

- obsessed with fashion
- idolise pop divas
- constant need to party and be seen
- crave drugs and alcohol
- enjoy bitchiness and drama
- hyperaware of social standing
- incapable of loyalty
- overreact to minor traumas
- narcissistic
- emotionally-immature
- obsessed with alpha men

A male nurse in my last workplace, spoke of his constant cycle of drug-fueled dance parties every second weekend as 'his hobby', and was always trying to get me to come along because "Walking in with a big, mean looking-guy like you would make everyone else jealous."

This was a man obsessed with getting spray tans, and going on vague, magazine fuelled crash diets the week before each party so he'd look 'fabulous'.

A man who'd spoke of never noticing how beautiful a person an old friend of his was before, and how he just realised that at the last dance party, and that "obviously, we should totally be boyfriends and i'll have to make that happen."

I raised an eyebrow. "Did you take ecstasy mate?"

Him: "How did you know?"

He sounds like a teenage girl, but he was fifty-eight.

If hypergamy is real, I believe gay men would be even more shameless about it than women.

Wow at these people on the video. The fat hog resorted to anger and cursing, which is typical of someone like herself. Also, those male feminists in the video are pathetic. I love how they were shouting down the guy at the end who had been financially fucked in his divorce, and inquired about support systems for the countless men who'd been through the same thing. Yea, let's high five each other because we don't like "patriarchy", but shout down the person who has actually experienced tangible hardships. Dat logic.

My opinion on gay marriage is identical to my opinion on heterosexual marriage, in that I believe having the government involved at all is ultimately bad news. I would deinstitutionalize everything.
