I recently gave up cross country running for the gym.

I've been working out 1 month so far with some experienced guys that teach proper technique. I am a massive noob at the gym. I am glad these guys have tolerated me for the past few sessions so that I can get to the point where I stop making them cringe. I didn't know what anything was called (except bench press/pull ups) and didn't know to breathe in and out or anything. But nonetheless, despite suffering embarrassment I am keen to get results and push onwards which I think they appreciate.

I have been eating a huge amount more than I used to and have a belly if I relax (if I tense slightly, it isn't too bad). I have never been fat before. I did GOMAD for two weeks, then cut it out and now I'm sticking to clean foods with lots of protein - but eating 4-5 meals a day.

Is this normal for bulking?

My goal is to hit 80-85kg in muscle @ 10-12% body fat by June 2014 and get some better aesthetic proportions. Is this realistic/achievable? I am 6"0.

I think that'll probably be doable, provided you stick at it. You seem to have bulked up your arms a little already. You'll probably have to work your legs a lot as well though.

A suit looks a lot better on someone who lifts than a skinny weakling. What are we arguing about here?

Really nothing.

Suit haters are a result of feminism being pounded into the heads of younger males in USA and Canada for so long.

I have almost single handedly beaten it out of them over the years but these kids were raised on soy milk so there are a few still left.

Either way though, I could get shot in the streets next week and I would die happy knowing I have made a ton of males familiar with what it is to be a Man again.

My work is almost done.

It's about the drop from your upper torso (shoulders/chest area) and your waist.

Look at "superhero physiques." Broad shoulders, capped deltoids, and narrow waist.

It creates an impressive, aesthetically pleasing image.

There are many tipping points. I'm at an early one, in mid-50s.

I got my belly size down so that my chest is somewhat more prominent than my belly.

That alone has been huge, I'm not getting discounted immediately now by 20-somethings. But if they see my wrinkles up close they're still blowing me out.

I think once my body is imposing enough that they know I could throw them across the room and pound them into submission they'll be much more interested.

It's funny, but it's kind of true.

I think we are looking at it wrong, they aren't picking and choosing the way we think in a conscious way, their bodies are just thinking "I might have to fuck that guy if he wants, he's huge."

Body fat wise your good. Eat plenty of chicken breast. I did notice once i started incorporating a good leg regimen my mass skyrocketed in a matter of weeks. I was not push heavy weight at all, point is you just want your all ur leg muscles to also tear and repair- this helps you produce more testosterone which helps u repair. (Get Big)

I see you need work on a couple of things. Do not get offended, I will keep it a buck

You need understand how getting "Big" works.
Stop the curls man. They won t help you right now.
Your shoulders and traps are ur best parts. them Abs need attention asap.

You want to do compound lifts.
Bench press(and bench variations)
Lat press( and variations)

These two will build the majority of the mass you seek.
They will target the back and bis, and chest and tri's.
Both work on the shoulders and traps..which you should not keep pushing until u level out, you could potentially do yourself wrong.

I did this routine and bulked alot lol over i believe 2 months.
3x5 bench, 3x5 incline ^ bench (Done at a weight which you can complete without help and on the last set the last two reps are tough. Though if you are a complete noob..idk if u even knw how to bench properly, if you don't ignore this u will destroy ur back and shoulders.)

Do some fill in's, you gona wna work on some lower chest, this will balance out many rotational movements. You'r lower chest is almost non existent. the pic of myself i put up was at a time where i did not work out lower chest, once i started my pecks looked great, more than that i got stronger! Then do a couple of tri pull downs. You should only be doing two at most since you at this point have blasted ur tri's..

Repeat the same for back and bi's with their excersizes.

Do some legs, dont kill urself on these, thts not the point. Just workem out. Have sex on off days. (If u can lol i used to get beat after some of these) Drink enough water! dont waste anymoney on anything other than 100 whey protein. Used to be the best bang for buck in 2010 prob still is.

I just saw u say ur gettin a gut. Ur prob eating to much sugar. Sugar is your friend after a workout and then at normal amounts. Lay off sweets, theyll get u fat.

RE: Bodybuilding, what is the tipping point?
In reference to the proportions comment mike dropped the answer is the golden rectangle.

So your ideal measurement is 1.618 times your waist = shoulder circumference.

So 30 waist you want a 48.5 shoulder circumference.

You can google around and find aesthetic metrics online, as an examples 2.5x wrist = arm size flexed.

I was always skinny, so the changes were 1) people no longer saying I was thin, 2) then moved to "man you started lifting huh", 3) then dudes asking me for advice, 4) then girls givin complements, 5) dudes now asking for permission to use a machine if I am even standing next to it, 6) girls coming up and grabbing my chest and when you arm lock a girl down the street she'll says "what nice arms you have" (giggle).

Notably I'm not at a point where people can tell if I am jacked wearing a leather jacket, but all the people comparing suits and physique is nonsense, if you have a stellar physique AND have a custom suit you look absolutely ridiculous. You can't find regular suits with a 10" drop from chest to hips. You're in the top 5%, "average man" sure wouldn't fit in it. Finally, If you don't have 8hours a week to dedicate to fitness (any kind) you don't care about yourself anyway, so this thread isn't for you.

Do you measure your shoulder circumference with your lats flared, or not?

^^^ I have about a 10 inch drop. I manage to get by on trim suits OTR, but with some waist supression. But yes, 90% of the suits look like a garbage bag on me.

You measure shoulders all the way around with your hands down flat against your waist (like a pencil dive off a dive board). Need a friend for this of course.

Once you can't wear suits with shoulder padding (90% of suits) you've gotten relatively wide. Give a wide and muscular dude a suit from Zara and he'll look like he is wearing a cardboard box.

I am good at taking advice. I don't get offended. I v much appreciate your feedback.

These guys are showing me shoulder/chest/lat workouts and leg workouts similar to what you described. It is all compound.

I've only been training with correct technique under instruction for one week so far out of four weeks spent in the gym. I am on the right path. I still have a lot to learn but I am doing well at learning more and more each week.

My large triceps are genetic - I have had them always.

I also don't do bicep curls (not even once) so the definition in my biceps could be genetic too. I noticed guys with much bigger arms don't get the same noticeable bulge as me.

I am sleeping min 8 hours per night. Is this enough?

I am eating 1.6kg of chicken breast per week. Lots of rice and vegetables. Is this enough?

I will cut out the sugar. Does this include fruit like bananas?

This is the protein I bought (NUTRISPORT 90+). I was given a recommendation of 2 scoops twice per day. Should I stick to this as a limit?

I don't understand your point on abs. Could you clarify what I need to do to 'sort them out'?

This is the physique I think most worthy of emulating:

RE: Bodybuilding, what is the tipping point?
^ you can always find a perfect suit. Just need a few hundred bucks in your pocket.

A) buy off rack fit shoulders (you need an unstructured shoulder at his size no padding)
Then get the waist taken in. Done.
B) go custom (get a hook up first is my opinion, attend fashion event and find the awkward stylish guy he will likely get you hooked up if you can teach him some game)

They can make suits for fat people, they can certainly customize suits for a fit person.

Oh also get a full canvas if you're using it for biz purposes. Form fit will be better as you put on weight

Hell yea bro, Ever watch a NFL draft? youtube that shit and youll see how yolic guys look like it custom 1000+ $ suits.

As for the protein, says it has amino acids and caesin. I cant say for sure if what the protein i used back then had caesin in it, but that is almost useless unless u are sleeping. Caesin from wat i remember is slow feeding of protein to the system. Pretty sure u dont need it but fuck wit it, u bought itlol Prob got 120 + servings should hold you for a bit.

As for the abs, on the pic when your abs look the best, it is because you have your spine bending and you are sucking them in so they show the definition. Ideally like the guy in the pic u can just stand in normal alpha dog stance and they should look great.
Dont kill the abs either, the point in bulking is to get a nice balance of a regimen that works for u

Good luck man, the gym is a great hobby that happens to be really good for your physical health. Don't over do it. Fuck any extreme diet or workouts ( unless you see the guy who is telling you about the system doing it and providing him with results)

I don't every wna look like i did when i was younger.. not necessary. A lot of the guys I knew got big because of the things mentioned here before. Bunch of pussys, now they are massive and keep going..mean while they still have the same wessh ass routine for everything else in their life. Poosey, hobbies, Intelligence, Lifestyle. Hasnt changed. but now they got19 inch arms ..word..
Don't abuse the gym bro..Its a hella drug

Btw not saying us men who are muscular and enjoy working out and developing our goals is pussy, I'm sayin' using this as a crutch aint bueno

This is the physique I think most worthy of emulating:

Great chest. Big but not too big. Great proportions.

Once you can't wear suits with shoulder padding (90% of suits) you've gotten relatively wide. Give a wide and muscular dude a suit from Zara and he'll look like he is wearing a cardboard box.

Yeah at the moment, I have a 32 inch waist and 49 inch shoulders (I got my suit I wear for school tapered) but am still at around stage 5 of the progression you described. I seem to get as many or more compliments from guys than girls to be honest.

I was under the impression you just need to lose fat around the abdomin for abs to show and that working them out isn't really that helpful unless you hit an advanced level.

Obviously that fat loss will come when I decide to start cutting so not important to focus on abs at the moment.

I would still do a couple sets of abs a week, so that when you cut they're looking good. I was lifting weights on my stomach, and my waist got a lot bigger so I stopped working them at all for like a year. My body fat stayed about the same, but I went from having very defined abs, to something that was barely a six pack.

Want to highlight that if you're going to do abs for gods sake do NOT do crunches. That shit does not work.

Get on a half ball and do them for real, get on a flat bench and do leg ups, hang from a pull up bar and do leg raises.

Using those "rolling sit up machines" do not work for shit, it's why you always see fat people on them.

Basically a ball + the half ball is your best bet for abs.

Quality quality quality over quantity. In the beginning once a week is just fine.
