I agree with CS, you'll just feel like a poser. Also I can instantly tell from that photo thats not a genuine PAM422, Im sure its even more glaringly obvious in person.
If you don't have a true interest in quality watches, maybe you could score a few points with a dumb ho pretending you have a 10k watch. You'd be surprised how good of an eye girls have for quality tho.
If you can't afford the real McCoy, get something more affordable that is still quality or make more money. Simple.

Also I was out with a friends coworker once and the guy was a tool. I saw it looked like he had a seamaster so I asked him about it.
He instantly got uncomfortable, 99% chance it was fake.

For you guys looking for a quality watch at a reasonable price, there's an assload of used and vintage watches for sale on Ebay

Exactly. I wrote about this fact in a prior post. As a general rule, a high quality pre-owned watch will sell for about fifty percent of the actual (not list) retail price on ebay.
As one of just many examples, watch for young guys who received a nice watch as a graduation present, never wore it, and now need cash.

Some people mentioned it earlier for a practical watch, it seemed like it was priced well so I thought I would share.
I wouldn't buy it, but it is good value for the price.
Someone mentioned citizen in an earlier post, so when I stumbled on a deal for that watch, thought I would help him out.
I was under the impression we were to help one another.
But I do agree it doesn't get it wet.

Sorry samsam, did seem dickish when I reread it. But we are in agreement at least.

I recently decided to order
this by Invicta. it's a very popular rolex submariner clone. I expected the face to bluer than it was; instead it was a cheap purple. that combined with the gold plating gave it a gaudy look. maybe a black/silver theme would've been a better pick? anyway, the watch was also too big for my thin wrists, and removing the links I couldn't get a "just right" feel - it was either too loose or too tight. so I returned the thing. my first misguided internet watch-buying experience lol.

I forget that people on this forum are from vastly different ages and finances. IMO, if you're going to get a watch like Invicta which is basically designed to mimic a rolex (extremely poorly) you might as well get a fake rolex. Rolex is notorious for being faked. I suppose if you ask any average person to name a watch brand, thats the name you'd here 80% of the time.
You're not going to fool anyone though, if that's what you're attempting to do. Even dumb hos who don't know a single thing about watches will look for the crown logo. Also if the curtains dont match the drapes, youre not fooling anyone either i.e. younger and not dressed well.
You can get a really well made automatic swiss watch from a company like Hamilton for $500-1500. It'll last, and you can resell it or give it to someone down the road.
Taste does change with age and income level. I used to love my POS Stuhrling.
Here is a nice one to get the wetness back up here:

hmm, i don't think i was trying to out and out trick anyone as much i decided to get something that just visually evoked a classic style.
ever since i've been looking into watches one problem i've come across is an overabundance of selection. there's just too much choice out there. on top of that, price and aesthetic quality, which is such a subjective thing, don't always seem to match.

bodmon, the main difference for cheaper watches (<$200) and mid-range watches $500-1000 is going to be an automatic movement instead of a quartz movement.
Ironically quartz movements are more accurate, but all it takes is a small battery, and few parts are needed. An automatic self winds on wrist movement and they are made of very complicated and precision parts. Then you have materials, one noticable difference is quartz cystal vs. sapphire crystal for the transparent face. Sapphire is much more expensive but also much more resistant to scratching.
bodman I would definitely stretch for an automatic, if it is possible.
Quartz is too noticeable and most chicks know that a quartz is cheaper.
You can always buy used.
There are a lot of $500 budget threads floating around on watchuseek and other watch boards.

Personally, I like clean and uncluttered. So less stuff on the dial the happier I am.

Lots of timepiece porn in this thread.
A chick will be interested in watches for two reasons: it's expensive, and/or it looks cool. As soon as you get into talking about what type of movement it has etc, I'd suspect most chicks' eyes would glaze over. For those within the budget range who want a conversation piece, I'd suggest Mr Jones Watches. They have some pretty funky, retro designs but won't be to everyone's tastes:

Someone told me Seiko is the best bang for your buck... are they right?
I don't wear a watch, and have not had a hard time projecting the class that a watch is supposed to relay.
That said, I had a colleague that wears really nice watches. Check this: homie was convinced that the best place to buy a fine watch was in a Vegas pawn shop. He said you may have to dig a bit, but you can indeed find a $20k type (insert brand) for like $2k. The aforementioned breitling for $4,100 might go for 400 or 500 bucks.
I used to chuckle inside...but, since a watch doesn't fuel my ego...I might have to check this out...

That might be the case in Vegas. It might be a special circumstance having to do with gambling fever. I have no idea. Although I would ask: Why would a pawn shop sell a watch for ten cents on the dollar when it could get fifty cents on the dollar by simply listing it on ebay?
But I can tell you that the prices of vintage and high-end watches are generally highly inflated in pawn shops. There are much better deals on ebay, if you wait for the right opportunity and then pounce.

Rolex gmt master, blue and red. Only gave 1200 for the watch and wear it always. Some chicks know what it is but most do not. The ones that due well its a great demonstration of disposable income.
This guy was convinced that pawn shops see a reasonably high volume of high end watches because of gamblers that need money in that moment.
Correct in that they could do better on eBay (and I think a lot of pawn shops indeed list their shit on eBay). But, I'm now at least curious to check this out because in a pawn shop it wouldn't have to deal with a bidding war like on eBay. Worst case he is full of shit. Best case, he is right and you get to experience merchandise in person before purchase. You don't get to check merchandise in person on eBay, and I'd be skeptical that I may pay 10 or 20 cents on the dollar when buying online. I can at least come up with an argument for why the discount exists in a Vegas pawn shop.
Full disclosure: I have not done myself. I did see his watches. Legit. Don't know for sure if he is full of shit, but if he paid full retail why would he tell me he bought in a Vegas pawn shop?

Yeah, that's just completely false.
Pawn shops know the market value of what they sell. The market for any decent watch is quite liquid and there's a ton of international transactions made on sites like rolexforums, ebay, etc.
If you find a $20k watch in a pawn shop for $2k, buy it because the shop itself won't be there much longer.
Bobco - that is a great deal, I almost got one of those for $2750.
Anymore for sell?
