Go ahead and rage out on this one. Steve Jobs is dead and instead of hiring smart people to continue on they are hiring fashion executives to make things more pretty (and likely more expensive).

Its a smart business move as this lady probably knows how to turn iphones into even more of a fashion/status symbol than they already are. Get ready for the new 'spring lineup' of iphone colours vs. better functionality.

On some level this isn't really anything new, Apple's MO has been style over functionality for a long time.
Capitalizing on the approach even further is just smart business... The only shot Apple has to stay in the game against Microsoft and Google will be to find new ways of wringing money out of gadget obsessed SWPLs who want something shiny for twice the price and half the quality.

Apple is fundamentally a marketing company, not a consumer electronics company.

I was a Lenovo laptop user for years and never believed the hype.

I got my first MacBook and never looked back.

There's a reason that most of what you read and watch is produced using Apple products.

It's not that everyone who creates written words or films are gay or a woman. Apple products are simply better.

I've asked dozens of Apple users this question and none have been able to respond with answer more detailed than "it's different" and "it's better for design and stuff."

I've spent hours and hours using Apple computers and never noticed an advantage. There is only an OS that is organized differently, but not better.

We use computers for data and field data collection/toughbooks. I actually worked for one contractor that had macs for their office computers, it didn't make anyone make spreadsheets any faster and actually hurt them as when clients came to their office they would often mention their 'fancy' computers and imply that they were being overcharged if they could spend money on macs.

I have never heard anyone in my field say "shit, we should mac books for our field computers...we can drop them off of the back of a truck and they will be fine"

Using apple for databases and mapping is overkill. Its like buying a fleet of Audi's to deliver pizzas with. There is no additional functionality. A bunch of women and gays would argue for that fleet of audis to deliver pizza with though....and you know who would be willing to pay more for a pizza delivered by a person in designer clothes driving an audi...women and gays.

Its a status brand, its not 'better'.

Musicians and artists have always sworn by apple because they are more suitable and better for their field. So is macintoshes have their uses.

Also, consider than 95% of the business world uses Pcs because to use ms word/excel/internet, you would not get any benefit from using a mac and might as well get a machine that fits your needs.

I have a friend who made the switch from being a lawyer to jury consultant.

He's told me that one of the questions he asks potential jurors is "Do you own Apple products, if so, how strongly do you feel about the superiority of Apple products compared to other brands?"

He says the vast majority of Apple owners born after 1970 use that question as an advertisement for Apple and often go on a tangent about how much better Apple is. Most Apple users (besides anyone who has a free Iphone 4 with a contract or the much older generation) tends to be fanatical about the brand.

The hypothesis, Apple users are much more susceptible to "groupthink" mentality than non-Apple users. Most of society is pro-prosecution to begin with, so he believes in minimizing the amount of Apple users to mitigate potential groupthink.

I am talking about the programs themselves: even since the 1980s and macpaint, the apple machines have always been a step ahead of pc as far as graphic design, and they have stayed ahead.

If you are going to use a macintosh for office software, that just seems extravagant and silly. You are paying twice as much for the mac that will do the same thing as a pc. you could be using that money for any other part of your business.

I don't use any of those programs, I don't own a mac. If I was an artist or musician, I probably would be using macs though.

There is one big irony: pc gamers almost all prefer microsoft over macintosh because the machines are so much easier to upgrade. Macintosh should be able to produce smoother running games with prettier graphics, theoretically. But that hasn't beent he case.

macs can run windows.. But I am not really someone who should be defending macintosh, I haven't owned one for over 25 years.

Unless you work in high-end animation, computer graphics imagery, or professional recording - you don't need a Mac. Having the latest Mac is the nerds equivalent of a Hermes Birkin.

The average person does not work in these fields and only needs a computer for facebook chat, email, internet, facebook chat, word, facebook chat, playing music, facebook chat.

As for phones, the iPhone is obviously better if you have a Mac so you can integrate iTunes, iCloud and all that Apple bloatware they require you to use just to transfer a file to the computer.

How would you like to be a DJ halfway through his set and have your computer crash?

Or be engrossed in your artistic project when your computer slows down (as PCs do for no reason)?

The hipster at the coffee shop doesn't need a mac to write his Great American Novel, and no one is claiming that people don't often buy "too much computer" as a way to status jockey or look cool.

What's being suggested is that Mac is better than PC. That's been demonstrated in the real world time and time again.
