Economist: UK becoming less educated
https://tinyurl.com/me27w6h

"On October 8th a scary report from the OECD, a think-tank, revealed that young English people are less numerate and less literate than most of their peers in the developed world. Worse still, England turned out to be one of the few countries in which the young are less capable than the old."

I've always thought of Britons as highly educated. It took me a few trips to Europe to realize they are no different than North Americans. We might have a stronger cowboy/redneck/rural southerner stereotype in the media but there is definitely a British counterpart. Free uni and condoms doesn't make you enlightened...

Welcome to hell, England.

This plus your obesity problems...you'll be fully-Americanized before you know it.

RE: Economist: UK becoming less educated

Universities are charging here now, £9k a year but you get a loan that covers it - so the average student ends up £27k in debt.

The system is not the outright debt slavery of the US model yet - you don't have to pay off against the loan if you don't meet an income threshold, and then you pay a percentage of your income above that amount, it expires after 50 years even if you haven't paid it all back etc. I just don't trust that they won't 'renegotiate' the terms once people are locked into the debt.

The students I see are from rich families and seem incredibly dim. Now everywhere charges as much as Oxford or Cambridge, why wouldn't the smartest flee from the rest and only aim for elite institutions?

Plus UK has fertility rate below 2.1 meaning there will be larger amount of old people versus young people in coming years, which will bring a lot of other problems. Younger people either have to work more(if they can find a job in the first place), pay more tax, so that the older people can get their pensions. I don't think the old fox will settle for less, everything will be put on the shoulders of the young people.

They may not have rednecks and trailer parks like 'Murica but they do have hordes of uneducated people living on welfare for generations: chavs, NEDs, knackers, whatever you call them.

There's a really funny website called Chavtowns, where British people post hilarious anthropological write-ups of their scummy neighborhoods.

Anyone who thinks all British are classy should watch a few episodes of the UK version of Shameless. Jesus!! I know it's just a tv show, but WTF?

Actually the US system is already like this (But only for federal loans, not private)

Seems like the UK is going down the tubes in every way:

- Marriage is dying
- Towns are dying

It's a death spiral right now. Multi-culturalism was the last nail in the coffin it seems.

RE: Economist: UK becoming less educated
I may be the lone voice of dissent here but after hopping around Europe for a few years and moving to the UK recently I think the country will be just fine.

Why? The English have pride. They have a whole fuckton of pride and the stones to make brash decisions to fix things. If you're in the process of getting a visa in the UK, ask any immigration lawyer or immigration officer about multiculturalism and they'll lay out the straight truth - the UK is backtracking from several decades of Labour-induced immigration chaos. It just takes time for things to balance out (equilibrium, much like anything).

The EDL, even with some of the extremists in it, is proof they are willing to tackle problems at a grassroots level, in my opinion. This kinda stuff is non-existent in other European nations like Germany where voicing even remote criticism of the immigration system gets you painted as a Nazi.

Still pretty disturbing to see places like Marble Arch (the one road alongside it) with nothing but Arabic signs, but it'll balance out. Another thing I noticed is that Brit women actually have children, I see tons of pregnant women here.

Most of those kids are being born out of wedlock

This is the decay intrinsic to a matriarchal setup. There's considerably less planning for the future, it just becomes a society that diverts resources away from productivity in order to finance hand-to-mouth female reproductive privilege, ease, and comfort. Government-incentivized female hypergamy undermines the nuclear family. Family stability collapses, educational standards wane, adolescents grow increasingly dysfunctional, crime increases, apathy multiplies, and as society slowly degrades the state quietly takes more and more control over our lives.
